I tried every local auto parts store and two Radio Shacks and haven't been able to find ANY 12v LEDs in white. They have them in green and red only. Does anyone know where I might find these?

I am having a 5 Dr yaris, so I will start with the front door and you can get the LEDs from Walmart for $10 (4 of them)

1. open the front door and locate the black stuff which cover the screw and remove it
2. unscrew the screw (the screw has something to hold on to it, so no worry it will fall into the door)
3. after you unscrew it, remove the lock and the handle
slide the handle toward the back of the car and remove it
4. drill a hole in the handle and put your LED in it (I used hot glue to keep the LED in place)
5. run the wire in the door and through the wire tube into the car
Now come to the rear door
6. For the rear door, we have to remove the lock in order to get to the screw, so we have to remove the door panel and there are only two screw for the door panel.
7. remove the cable for the lock and unplug any wire for the power window or whatever u have.
8. after remove the door panel, u can unplug the wire and remove the lock
9. u will be able to see the screw after u remove the lock
10. remove the door handle the same way u do for the front door
again run the LED wire through the wire tube into the car
Now u can connect your LED wherever u want. I run the wire to the keyless dome light circuit, so when i open the door, this will come on
Hope u guys like it

First of all GREAT IDEA, and I am sorry your English is not the greatest (Cantonese/Mandirin/Japanese?), but I am going to see if you mind adding some stuff to this how-to? I am doing to create the ultimate how-to, and I could use some help.

Things to add (if you don't mind):

PARTS:

LED's (WHERE EXACTLY YOU GOT THEM, MODEL NM, Description):
  • Were these LED's individually packaged, or in a kit?(Kit SKU?)
  • If individually packaged how did you wire them? (LED's require voltage regulation)
  • Where did you purchase them (department/area of store)
Tape: Kind/How Much
Wire Nuts (or equiv.)

TOOLS:
Screwdriver: Torx (Exact Size)
Power Drill
Drill Bits (size)

Not trying to be rude, this is an awesome how to. But I would like to put it in a big How-To document for the people on here. Not like the ones we have, but more of a detailed instructional how-to. I want to have all the details so you are not looking around for a part or tool after you one and only car is pulled apart (might have happened to me before) :P

If anyone else has something they want to put it let me know, and I will reformat and let you know what is needed if something needs to be added.

Thanks,

I had to shorten it, was long.. But autozone.com and the stores have them. Radioshack carries them, and a few thousand people online. If you need something weird like a tri color or something let me know and I can find it if you need.

This one looks good, but it isn't available online or for pickup at my local AutoZone.

Both Radio Shacks near me only had red and green, no blue or white. Ideally I'd like a pre-wired white LED with some kind of holder.

Something like this, only in white

Yeah, I don't know NJ, but in Houston we have Fry's, and EPO. The will have that, but I am not sure you will have anything like that there.

Aside from Radio Shack, I'm out of options for electronics stores that I know of. I tried AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, R&S Strauss on whim, but no dice.

I doubt Target or Best Buy carry these kind of electronics.

However, what voltage are you going to put it to?

Looking for something 12 volt so I don't have to worry about resistors when I hook it up to the dome light.

does anyone else who has this done have any pictures? I'm seriously contemplating doing this but would like to see it on other colored cars. I have a meteorite metallic and am trying to figure out the best color. haha I also don't have the super bright lights like the OP so mine wouldn't match like his does (props for that btw)

shrink wrap the wires or electrical tape them together, should make it easier to pull through

Hi, Excellent idea. Did you had to put any current limitting resistors so that they don't burn out?
