Just bought a used 2012 sedan yaris. Anything I should know?

First, it seems like this is the largest community of yaris owners. Is there a bigger forum somewhere?

Is there any common problems with this model?

Please let me know! I would want to watch out for any problems that may come up

Got a 2012 today also. Surprised I fit in it being 6'4". Great little car, but needs an arm rest for sure.

Check the underneath of the hood on the passenger side a couple of times a year for pink coolant stains from the water pump. It tends to leak. Probably one in a hundred do this so its no biggie.

There are two big bolts under the car that hold the front suspension on that can trap water and corrode away. Again, this is not frequent especially if you live where huge ammounts of salt arent applied to the road in winter.

Thats it! Enjoy!

The 2012 sedan was apparently only sold to rental fleets in the US. Even though they were built in 2012, they are still a 2011 model aka 2nd gen. 3rd gen is not sold as a sedan in US.

Yep! It was previously a rental car, but it's mine now!

I really do like the car and have lots of mods planned for it.

Mine was a rental as well.

Try to save up some pictures and the stuff you do, I'd like to see a build thread

The only real thing you have to worry about is what to do with all the money you wont spend on fuel and fixing the car!

Have it checked every 300,000 miles for possible issues.

Might want to do a few drain and fills on the transmission and change out the transmission filter. Rentals are usually driven hard and new fluid would probably good for it. It will probably be fine regardless though. Enjoy your new car

Well that sucks! So there's not going to be any new sedans anymore? Unless they change their mind.

Of course, I don't know if yaris has been the king for a good while. When it comes to gasoline mpg. There are others like Kia and Ford that claim higher than 35 mpg with their latest and greatest 4-bangers.

I believe Kia is in big trouble with the Feds for LYING about the mpg its cars get.

I don't believe Ford is telling the truth either Even its 1 liter Ecoboost engine with turbo is only rated as good as the Yaris!

Changing the transmission fluid is a good idea, I will look into it!

Good to hear you can actually change the transmission fluid filter on this car, because my last car had it built into the transmission. So, the only way to change it was to rebuild the tranny!

Yea it seems the only manufacturer not to be sued for lying about gas mileage is Toyota.

With numerous companies being caught overstating mileage, Toyota's are consistently under rated. It's sad if people base a purchase decision on EPA/manufacturer claims on. Do extensive online research. Thousands of people record mileage and track it on fuel efficiency sites. You can find pretty accurate real world averages there.

Do you happen to have the accurate real world average for the Yaris? The sedan in particular. My average has been about 35, but I'm not a leadfoot like some people.

Take your tire pressure from 32 to 36-7 and pick up another mpg or so on the highway. And no difference in tire wear by the way.....

Anybody know if they will bring back the Yaris sedan to the states someday?

Or perhaps the next model up can get close to the same mileage? Corola I guess it wold be.
