Finally fixed my stupid door lock actuator and for free!
So my door lock actuators on 3 of my doors no longer work, The drivers side failed and was replaced under warranty, then the passenger side and then the driver side again shortly after the passanger rear failed. I am not about to fork out 350 per door for just the part and Ive got sick and tired of having to use my key to open my door so today i bit the bullet and tore my door apart and dissected my door lock actuator to see if I could fix it.
I wish I took more pictures so I could compile a DIY After I was almost done I took a few pictures but I plan to do the rest of my doors since they are all broken and will do a step by step. After opening apart the actuator you can see the motor. 2 wires connect it i poped them off to allow me to remove it. Looks like the tiny motors in the remote control cars when I was a kid I think it might be possible to find a replacement at a hobby store. After removing the motor i popped the worm gear off and pried the metal cover to allow me to gain acesss to the innards. As you can see the contacts were black. I completely removed the motor and cleaned it with 1000 grit sandpaper and electrical contact cleaner After awile of cleaning you can see there is a big difference. I put everything back together and WHALA my door locks and unlocks with the remote again! I cant wait to do the rest of the doors when I have time.
