38 hwy miles per gallon, lol, you kiddin me?

Did a small test run w/ my scan gauge on my way home from work.

Also note the 38 mpg on the window sticker, they dont go faster than like 63 mph.

46.8 - Avg miles per gallon (@ 55 MPH w/ cruise control was steady 45-48 MPG)
9.2 - miles drove
3004 - RPM max
55 - MPH max
37 MPH average (real average was 40-55 not counting stop lights)

Thats w/ like 3 full stop/starts at lights, and about 6 or so slow downs to like 20 mph (turns and wat not)

Did this one when i first got it today, just a quick test:

3.3 Mile drive
2228 Max RPM - Was Grandma'in it
37 MPH Max
24 MPH Avg - Was really 33 ish w/ the cruse on, but got caught a light, and amazingly enough, got caught at a turtle crossing the street LMAO
0.1 Gal. Fuel Used
190 Degrees F Max
53.1 MPG AVG oh yea, i love it

Thats just sick, i mean i hear of hybrids gettin alot worse milage than they say. I did a couple of tests while working, i could hold about 38-40 MPG pure city driving, i mean, i was drivin like a b*tch but still, i still cant get over it.

Latest one, all highway, no slow downs at all except one toll booth:

30.9 miles drove
3400 max RPM
61 MPH avg
51.2 MPG avg

I'm getting around 40 miles to the gallon not driving like an old lady as welll. Its almost hard to believe. The yaris actually gets better gas milage than they had on the gas milage sticker. Probably the first time thats every happened. I wonder if the toyota people did that much research on the gas milage. Hard to complain.

It honestly is amazing...

I have been getting over 50mpg on the highway quite consistently, and well over 40mpg in the city...standard 5speed 3door, no babying.

I love it.

35$ for gas at 109 cents a L every 3 weeks.

Hey, you have to drive more than a few miles to determine MPG. In fact, you probably average the MPG after 4-5 complete fillups. That way you have well over 1200-1500 miles for sampling mpg.

It will interesting to see if your scangauge's reported MPG matches what you calculate for each tank through more traditional methods. Right now you're assuming the scangauge is correct, but that may not end up being the case.

And as far as hybrids not getting their estimated mileage - our Prius regularly gets 52MPG on the highway, which is precisely what the EPA estimates. In short jaunts around town it can get much higher than that.

i can't believe the reports of 50 mpg, just can't. there can't be such huge discrepencies from car to car, unless there is a big difference in quality of the fuel that people are using.

the best i have ever achieved, averaged over 4 tanks, is 40 mpg (u.s.), 50/50 highway/city, driving like gramma, my car currently has 7400 km (4600 miles)

of course i've only ever used 87 octane, and according to the reading i have done, the higher octane fuel might only give you marginally better fuel economy.

If anybody is getting 50mpg or above in their Yaris, then they are not doing the computation correctly. Nice to believe it but no way.

i wonder if some are doing a conversion from L p/100km to IMPERIAL galons as opposed to u.s. galons, i'm not sure what the difference would be, but here is a site that has been posted before:

The difference is around 9 MPG. As in Imperial gallons are 9 mpg higher than US gallons.

And gas mileage is all about how you drive the car.

Well the 53 mpg was just a 30 mph cruise. And i'm pretty sure its accurate, 45-48 mpg sounds about right for 55 mph from what i'v heard.

And i know 9 miles of driving doesnt show much compared to like a 5 tank average, its just the fact that the car can get that good of mileage.

I'm getting anywhere from 37 to 39 miles/U.S. gallon in my 5-speed RS. Almost all of my driving is around the small resort town I live in, with only moderate traffic. I do some driving on open country roads, but so far NO highway driving at all. Results are based on 6 tanks since new, and were converted from L/100km using the above-mentioned converter. Please note I do tend to toss the Yaris around in an aggressive manner (certainly NOT in a fuel efficient way) and do enounter a lot of hills. As "Why" says, it is all about HOW you drive the car, and I am sure I could get much better results if that was my intention.

Ok. My yaris is a sedan automatic with A/C. My weekly drive is also a 500 mile routine, 80% hwy / 20% city. I now filled up with my fourth tank of gas (avg $2.89/gal Yuck) I went from a high of 46mpg on the first tank (I was really driving like an old lady, not going over 60 or 65mph and didn't have to use the A/C. It then went lower to 44mpg on the second fill-up. On the last two fill-ups it started to settle at around 42.5mpg while no no longer driving like an old lady. I also added extra weight (subwoofer box in trunk). I'll be satisfied if this holds.

Someone should do a 1,000 mile trip all highway not pushing it too hard to see what it gets in gas milage. Though it would be hard not to go 75 and 80 on a long highway trip. I believe one guy did that a month or two ago and got 45+ miles to the gallon. He might of reported better than that. But he was pretty amazed at its good long distance gas milage via highway miles.

I'd do it. But I've got to work now. But come oct. I'll be doing the trip thing.

I'll be taking a 4000km "cruise" down Kansas within a month. We'll see how that goes.
