I won't go into detail about why we chose not to use them, or who we got them from at this time. I am certain in your position you see first hand how dealing with the wrong manufacturer can be bad for business.

Any time we do something for use in the magazine we have to decided if we would spend our own money on the product/service/etc, and would we recommend this to someone else... The answer to both of these questions became no.

Personally I hate not using them. The 13" wheel/tire package was going to do so many good things, better gearing, lower CG, less weight. Ultimately I believe not having them will slow us down some at the Runoffs. But it is to late to do anything about it now, and ultimately you have to draw the line somewhere.

On a happier note... Last night I pulled out the CamCon and associated wiring, and got the stock harness all patched up. I can now plug in our recently delivered custom plug-n-play harness for our new engine management. Going to get it tuned tomorrow.

We have also scheduled the first installment on the Yaris to go in the Oct issue of SportsCar, which we are working on right now.

Long night... With still more to do. But it is alive and running on its new AEM plug-n-play. Details later.

Bad news... The VTI (?) on the intake came has an issue. Not sure if it was caused by the wreck, shipping of the head/cams, or careless handling, but the unit is locked up. We can activate the VVT unit, pulled out the oil unit and we can see it move, we have full control with the AEM, but the cam is stuck.

We have a tune to race on this weekend, lots of HP, but the Tq is weak. Going to have to fix it next week.

Sitting in the car now doing the program on the AIM dash.

If anyone is interested in the parts needed to do the xB final drive (4.312) swap:

33321-52110, output shaft
41221-52270, ring gear
90105-11040, ring gear bolts (8)

Depending on mileage you may also want to replace bearings and seals, but you don't need to source those from Toyota.

What a long weekend... 5:00am Friday I hit the road to Utah, made it to the track in time to register and tech. Getting home at 2:30am today sucked. Damn you Vegas traffic.

Practice at 8:00am on sat. Qualified 1st in HP by a good margin. Things were going good during the race. I had a good gap over 2nd, and just planned to nurse the car around to my needed finish (I had to finish one more race to get an invite to the Runoffs). Late in the race the heat started to take its toll on the front tires and 2nd place was closing in. With only a few laps to go I got hosed by a slower car, he drove right in the middle of one of the fastest turns, and could not decided which way he was going to go. I was forced to brake and I watched 2nd zoom right by me. At this point only two laps left, and I did not have enough tire left to get back by him.

Sunday was another 1st place starting position. This was the most exciting race I have had to date. Two FP cars (a quicker class) were mixing it up right ahead of me, and I had James Blust (Sunday's HP winner) right on me. There were a number of times the four of us were nose to tail. James got by me a couple of times, and I got back by him as well, it was a great battle. At the end I did not have enough left and came home second.

Hopefully once we get the new suspension installed and sorted the car will be a lot easier on its tires. But considering we had stock shocks, some random lowering springs, and the VVT was not working, it was a great outing. Best of all, I have no body panels to replace.

Video later.

Thanks for sharing video. Cool, and exciting story!
Looks like that Datsun 510 (?) was blocking you a few times in the beginning.

Even worse on Sun... The 510 is an FP car, owner says 175hp. On Sun he was racing an EP Miata (even quicker car) and both of them were holding up the top two (slower) HP cars. That's racing.

That would be too frustrating for me.

I consider being able to even be in that position (where a faster car is holding me up) a good thing.
