Installing power locks in 2008 Yaris Hatchback

I have a 2008 Yaris hatchback that did not come with power locks. I have been working with a local installer (since Toyota does not provide this service nor the kits) who has had experience with these installations. These cars use the cable system. Two kits were tried, the main difference being in the strength of the actuators. The heavier actuator will operate the locks perfectly fine, but it is almost impossible to lock/unlock the door manually (i.e. the button is very hard to move due to the strength of the actuator). I want to be able to lock/unlock the door manually as well as with the keyless entry system. The lighter actuator that was tried allows for manual lock/unlock but doesn't have enough power to lock/unlock electronically. Not sure where to go from here.

What actuators are you using? I haven't heard of that complaint with the MES ones from A1electric.com. Also, is it possible that your installer has connected them so that they are always powered, since solenoid actuators should offer little resistance when not powered?

I talked to the installer. I don't believe they were the MES type although the second one he tried was supposed to be low resistance (and it was) but it wouldn't move the lock.

I just ordered a pair of actuators from A1electric. It certainly sounds like they should work.

Thanks.

Do you know if there is a solution for the hatch re: lock/unlock?

The hatch lock needs a rod-type actuator.
