GM gives up on Europe
I just heard that General Motors has agreed to sell both its European brands, Opel and Vauxhall, to French conglomerate PSA, who own Peugeot and Citroėn. It sounds like a good move to me. GM hasn't made a profit in Europe since the past century. Here's an article with more details:
GM exits Europe with Opel-Vauxhall Sale The brands we get here in the U.S. have borrowed Opel cars from time to time. Most recently, we got the Buick Cascadia, a.k.a. Opel Cascadia, a heavy convertible sure to be filling retirement communities in Florida and SoCal soon. Or at least it was, until this deal. I'm not sure what they're going to do with it now, since PSA will own the intellectual property rights. I saw one at the Phoenix car show last year. The center console gave away its heritage. Those Germans sure love buttons. |
