Exclamation New 2012 Yaris Reveal Coming December 22!

Toyota Motor Corp. has confirmed the Japanese market launch date of its new 2012 Toyota Yaris (Vitz in Japan market). It will be introduced in Japan on December 22, 2010. Expect the new Yaris/Vitz to make its work premiere at a major car show sometime next year.

The Japanese company said that aside from the edgier design language, the new subcompact will shine in terms of fuel efficiency with the 1.3-liter gasoline engine model, which features a start-stop system, returning up to 26.5lt/100km, equal to 62.3 mpg US and 3.8lt/100km, with CO2 emissions of just 88g/km.

According to Toyota, the new Yaris / Vitz will be the one of the most fuel-efficient models in its Japanese market range.

62.3MPG!!!! HOLY CRAP!

Are they only going to make a 5 door or will the 3dr/sedan be continued?

Wow! 62.3 MPG!!!

I wonder if the U.S. will see this engine displacement though?

We won't get the 1.3. America always gets just one engine choice in economy cars. While Europe and Japan get like 4-5 engine choices on each car.

It's sickening.

We'll probably see a carry over 1.5 with minor revisions. Hopefully, though, we see a new transmission. 4-speeds don't cut it anymore.

What would 62mpg's do to Prius sales here in the US?
I'd think they would rehash the 1.5L and keep the same mpgs....
I'm really looking forward to seeing the real official photos of the car or even better the unveiling on YouTube

While I like the current hatch design its nice that they are going more "aggressive" look. Although the new Vitz/Yaris seems like it will be more of a generic car compared to the current, meaning not as quirky. I guess we'll see.

I hope they improve the current engine. Its over 10 years old. That's rediculous. Toyota is notorious for being glacier slow on engine development compared to rivals. Maybe they will introduce stop/start to the U.S.

Honda is even slower with engine improvements, although they've come along with higher speed transmissions sooner in their cheaper cars.

Fact is, Toyota has still made the most fuel efficient engines up until only this year as rivals have finally caught up. But you're right, now's the time to upgrade. They can't afford to stand still when even Ford and GM are making massive strides.

I like it, except that the front end looks a little busy. I don't mind the aggressive look of it, I guess the main problem to me is the large size and awkward triangular shape of the sections around the fog lights. But overall it looks good.

I wonder what the new sedan will look like too, assuming the sedan continues in 2012.

The silver one pictured above is only the most extreme option offered in Japan. The regular model pictured many times in other threads is just as toned down as the current model.

The sedan will certainly live on. It sells just as well as the LB even worldwide. Actually, I see a lot more sedans than LB's.

True, I guess what I was thinking was that I prefer this more aggressive looking version here, over the plainer ones, except for those large triangles around the fog lights. Good point about the sedan, it must be continuing... looking forward to seeing it.
