Video Camera Mount (In Car)

Anyone who has access and supplies ever thought about making a video camera mount for the Yaris, I tried making a Home Depot job one and it didnt work well, or at least it did with the stock seats. I am looking to have one built that would either go where the Seatbelts bolts are now, or something similar.

Also, you guys can share your setups, for those of us who dont have anything can setup something, or at least get a good idea.

Matt, I may have to make one like yours. Mine shakes too much. The camera is at the end of a cantelever. I suppose that with yours, the two seats have to be the same distance from the dash.

correct, c'mon Long, you know a fixed-fixed beam will provide a more rigid support :)

yea. I was kinda hoping for someone who had solved the problem with aftermarket seats, cause I have no headrests...lol Nor a rear seat to try and fab something up back there.

Guess this means im headed to Home depot to try again..

My first rig setup was very similar to yours, but it just didnt want to work too well, it shook like crazy

Mike (KCALB SIRAY) made a camera mount with two poles that went from the floor to headliner. I never saw a picture of it. I think he built another one.

there's always my super-ghetto system, I am sure a more stable alternative could be fabricated...

btw the problem with seatback mounts is that they follow the vibration/back-to-front movement of the seat, which can be quite a lot (look at my videos on youtube, LOL)

What is probably the best alternative would be brackets and a bar linking the mounting bolt of the seat belts on the B-pillars, sorta like a harness bar without any of the structural rigidity...

I used one of those once, and its a crap flex-pod...The thing tends to fall apart, and if you adjust the legs too much, they end up snapping... But never tried it with my seats now

naaah you gotta use the original Gorillapod... the biggest one preferably, mine is the medium size one and does not handle the forces so well!

I used a Targus model and it was the larger size, it didnt do too hot.

I was thinking of just finding a bar that can be attached to the b pillar... then attach another to the floor to give it some extra support and stability.

God this would be so easy if I had a roll cage...lol That warrants a whole new thread.

Here's a site with some really good stuff:

http://www.filmtools.com/succupmoun.html

It's where I got mine from. Gotta look for a picture later.

*edit*

Here's the exact one I have:

http://www.filmtools.com/cadellini484.html

You can mount it in all kinds of different places. I've had it on my hood, strut tower bar, headrest, front tow hook, etc.

TY for posting this site, this can help alot of people who are looking for even just a headrest mount, there is a company there who offers a single or dual headrest mount...all of it is a bit pricey, but if you want a quality product, in some cases you gotta pay up to get what you want.

you could always bypass the seats and interior completely, make a custom bracket that mounts behind one of the front grills and put a small piece of plexi in front of the lens to protect it...that would be awesome imo and yield some potentially heart racing footage. ha, idk how many people know about the old movie, but everyone must see the "movie" called Rendezvous :)
