Car wash blew off car roof rubber strips...

So I took my Yaris through a local car wash yesterday and it has one of those industrial blow dryers at the end that blow your car dry. Well when I got home I noticed the two rubber weather strips on the roof of my car were completely dislodged and I have to assume it was the car wash blow dryer since it wasn't like that before. The strips are still there, they just won't go back into place anymore, they're all loose now.

Has this happened to any of you? How do I fix this? Are the strips glued down? Any ideas on how much it would cost for the dealership to replace or how much the part is so I can do it myself if it's possible?

Never going through a car wash again....

They are easy to replace, as they just snap into their track. If yours won't go back on, the tabs may have been ripped off.

I can definitely see the car wash dryer catching it just right to pop it out of place.

They are about $40 each from the dealer:

Just use some 3M two sided tape and stick them back down.

After having a second look this morning, it appears that the tabs at the ends are still there because it's still in place at the ends and they won't come out:

However, the rest of the strip in the middle is loose fitting, in fact, I can actually pull it up like this:

Is that normal? Is it supposed to snap back into place in the middle parts or just the ends because I can push the middle part back down but it's not like super snug, only the ends seem to be snapped down and snug?

Start at one end and work your way to the other pushing firmly.

I tried that and while the middle section does go back down into place, it's just loose fitting, not very snug. I'm wondering if that's normal or not.

Go to the parts store and get some "automotive trim adhesive" a DAB here and there will do the trick.

Use caution as the adhesive tends to be messy and dries yellow...

I had the exact same issue caused by the same thing.

They tend to stretch once removed, to where they don't sit very well when put back on. Adhesive might not be a bad idea to get them to sit correctly without spending $80.

Yes. This has happened to me a couple of times. Mine still just snap back down though.

Are those roof strips actually for weatherproofing or just for show? I don't want water to leak into the cabin or rust to form in the groove where the strip goes.

I'm gonna go have another look and see if I can somehow find a way to clamp it down into place real snug. I'm wondering why Toyota didn't use adhesive on these things in the first place?

They are just to cover over the seam area where the roof meets the side structure. It is welded and seam sealed, but ugly if uncovered.

Careful, some online parts stores don't ship "large" items. I think TRDsparks balked at sending me one of those to replace the loose one on the wife's sedan.

OK, mine finally gave up the ghost today (thanks again to the brutal southcentral Texas sun and heat!). Did anyone find these at a reasonable price?

Cheers! M2

That happened on my old 2000 Accord once, long after I gave up lovingly hand-washing and detailing it, in favor of quick and easy automatic car washes. The rubber roof strips snapped back in to their respective grooves after a little bit of finessing around with them.
