TOYOTA : halting production of PRIUS in ...

Tupelo , Mississippi . Tells me they're cutting corners due to the economy and lower gas prices . This could be a sign to expect more REBATES ( more money back ) and low interest rates ( through TOYOTA ) in the near future for the '09 YARIS . . Sad it had to come to this situation to benefit on savings .

I was under the impression that they never started production in that plant yet?

They are made in Japan right now. That report doesn't say why they are pushing the production date back. Maybe they govertment is trying to block it for some reason or could be many other reasons.

Prius is expensive for what it is. If they were to make a compressed natural gas or liquified petrolem gas Yaris i'd buy that over a Prius.

Think about it, install a pump at your own home and fill your car at 8 cents for a 100 litres, that would shit all over the fuel cost on a Prius. Even after spending $2000 on installation of your own gas pump.

CNG and LPG cars are good for the enviroment with low emmisions.

"halting production" means they are going to stop making something that they are already producing. You should have said "postponed the start of production."

Yeah, that's not good news. Citibank just leaked that it's laying off 10K workers worldwide. That's just a drop in the bucket. Being an old-timer, here, I can tell you that Wall Street is the terrorist we should fear. All this bad stuff trickles down. The economy was "fundamentally sound" until all the liquidity crisis started and consumer panic set in.

Layoffs keep the company profitable on paper. That's all modern day management cares about. Stock price and profits on paper.
