2009 Yaris accident, need to replace passenger door question

Hi, it's my first time posting on the forum.

My 2009 yaris is a 3 door hatchback.

I just got into an accident recently.

My passenger door is scratched and dented in, but otherwise everything else is fine.

I don't have collision or comprehensive, only basic insurance. So I'll have to pay for a passenger side door myself.

I'm wondering if I pick up a replacement yaris door, at the junkyard does it have to be 2009 also? Can a 2008 yaris door work or any other year?

Secondly, will I need to find a door from another 3 door hatchback or would a 5 door passenger side door be the same size and work also?

Lastly, is it a difficult job to replace the door myself, or should I get it professionally done? What do you recommend?

I've searched google and the other forums and can't seem to find a solid answer.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

You have to use a door from a 3 door hatchback. Doors are the same for 2006-2011 model years so any from that time frame should be OK as long as they come from a 3 door hatch.

I believe the interior styling changed sometime during that time but if that's the case just swap your present door card to the new door.

You have choices:

1. Repair the door.
2. Buy a door from a salvage yard (You may be lucky and find the same colour).
3. Buy an OEM door from Toyota.
4. Buy an aftermarket door.

BTW, it looks like the rocker panel is damaged, as well.

bodywork door fender rocker panel

(in top photo, fender looks involved. in lower photo it doesn't)
remove door parts and kick out the dents. a like-new repair invites a moose into your path.
(and a perfect door will make you care about the rocker, which you'll fill w/ bondo, which will crack and collect salt and rust.)

Thank you everyone for the replies, honestly I'd have no idea where to start without your comments and help.

I think I'm going to try taking the door apart and kicking out the dents, then repainting it myself with the same color. If that doesn't work, I'll go down and buy a door from a salvage yard.

The rocker panel is damaged, but I can live with that— but the door is just too unsightly.

I'm thinking all this is cosmetic, am I wrong?

I was in the left lane when I heard emergency sirens, checked my mirrors, but obviously not well enough, since someone was in my blind spot and ended up side swiping them.

After exchanging info, they drove away with scratches, but my baby is all dented.
Do you think I could have caused more damage to my car than just the door and rocker? Is there a chance I messed up my frame or stuff like that?

Thanks so much everyone.

Take the car to a body shop and get a free estimate. The shop will detail the extent of the damage. That will give you a good starting point.

Logon to this website to locate a door from salvage. Input your location, vehicle information, and the part you need... or call. I think shipping is free.

I replaced two doors on a 08 sedan myself that were worse than that, hit and run.(not me by the way.)If you're going to do that yourself transfer the lock cylinder over. Its a torx bit just inside the door next to lock. When you swap the door don't remove the whole hinge off your car,Leave it on and bolt the next door on the current hinge you have.It won't be out that much, a pro would notice but it probably won't look like shit especially if it's painted. If somebody paints it and you install yourself it's way cheaper.Use a pry tool to get you're wireclips out of the old door.Using your hands to pull them can phuck up wires.Take a truck to the junkyard, otherwise your car will be two tone when it leaves the parking lot.Hope you find the same color,my current yaris was in that kind of state when I bought it I'm coming up to two years driving it got it for $2000(parts and paint $550)

Thank you everyone and thank you Garth for the help and your experience, it saves me a lot of research and encourages me that this whole problem is fixable.

I've spent the past week calling over 20 autowreckers and
as soon as I get a list organized I'd be happy to post my research to help any fellow Yaris owners that might be in the same situation.

I've come across another question that all you friends could probably answer.

My yaris is a 2009, however I've been finding doors for 2007, and 2008. I want to replace my original inner door panels with the panels on the replacement door I'm purchasing, however, my question is, will I be able to swap out my 2009 panels with a 2008 or 2007, more specifically will the plastic clip positions be the same and fit or will there need to be some kind of modification?

Thank you everyone, I'll keep you all updated.

I wanted to swap my 07 ones for 09 someone on here told me it would work. The guys at the counter at the wreckers can tell you or at least that's how it's been for me.To make sure I've checked at the Toyota dealership parts counter before also.At the self serve wreckers I go to if you leave something at the counter they let you check it out the parking lot.Hope it works out for you.(crank panels to crank panels, power panels to Power)

The price range for a door was between $200 and $550. It seems like they make up the price on the spot, so make sure you shop around.

Some advice is make sure you ask if it's a power or manual door, it does matter.

I'll try to keep you all updated, hope this helps.

If you can don't get the door from a auto wrecker that's not open to the public. Get it from one where you pay a cheap price and pull it yourself. The best part about that is it also gives you a idea what you're in for when you install later.Sometimes it takes awhile before you can find a yaris(you can't kill them easy)The two places I go to have a website and you can check inventory on a daily basis on your phone.I bought a back bumper this year for something like $50,had to get a guy to change the color from blue to Orange but it was $200 bucks combined. My rocker panel is damaged from the damage done when I bought it but after fixing front bumper lights and fender I'm able to live with it.
