repairing the front end of a 2007 yaris

i was watching a diy video on repairing the front end of a car. mention was made of placing the headlight header panel on the car before placing on the bumper cover in order to determine proper alignment. my car was in collision and i tried recovering all the parts i could. but i could not find a header panel. would i be right in saying that smaller cars such as a yaris do not have a header panel, and that the bumper cover itself just attaches to the core radiator support and side support on the fenders. but than i also found that i have a ripped absorber which apparently goes above and under the bumper cover. any suggestions for properly measuring the core support and using a hammer and dolly to place it back in measurement? i have a haynes manual for my car and am planning on buying also proper tools/parts. where is the best online locations? anyone have experience with harbor freight or 1A auto? any further suggestions about repairing the front end?

I'd see if you can talk a body shop into letting you look at their estimate manual, it'll have all the measurements you need as well as the exploded parts diagram.

I actually repaired the front end on my Yaris after a nasty front end collision. The front end all bolts together. Its fairly self explanatory once you get the bumper off.

I did a thread about it here: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58345

I went to the scrapyard and got most of the parts i needed from there. I'm honestly not sure how much luck you would have beating it back into shape. My car actually is a little bent up at the front and doesn't quite line up properly at the front. I'm not a body work guy. It's good enough though. It's a 13 year old car and it gets me from A to B.

On most vehicles, the header panel is the piece between the bumper and the hood—normally all the stuff between the headlights, so yes, I think in your case the header panel is the same thing as the bumper cover.

However, on the Yaris, it is necessary to remove the bumper cover to replace the headlight bulbs, so maybe the advice you heard was just to get the headlights properly installed and aligned before installing the bumper cover.

I absolutely love Harbor Freight. They are on the very cheap end of the tool spectrum, which makes it a great place to start for most tools. There may be some applications where you'll want something nicer, but I think it's a great place to go for DIY people. And https://www.rockauto.com is a good resource online for parts. I've also gotten some parts special-ordered from the local Toyota dealership.

I hope you'll show us some before-and-after pictures of your project!
