2013 Yaris SE - Hitch Issues?

I have a 2013 Toyota Yaris SE and I'm struggling to fit a bicycle to the back of it. I am weary of hatchback style bike mounts because of damage to the paint where they secure to the hitch. The same goes for roof-top mounts that go into the door frames. I really like hitch mounted bike racks and I already have the bookrack itself. I just need a hitch.

So here is my problem: I ordered a Curt hitch that's designed for a 2013 Yaris, got it on my car, and it wouldn't clear my exhaust! The exhaust sits on the cross bar for the hitch and rattles!

Does anyone else on here have a 2012 or 2013 Yaris SE with a hitch? Where did you get it? How did you mount it? Did you have issues?

Search! There are at least two threads in here in this section about hitches with bike racks....on our 2012-2013 models. I personally have responded in them, I bought a curt and have no issues.

What exactly is the problem, I should be able to help you.
Did you follow the directions ?
Did you bend the tab out of the way?
Did you bolt it right side up?
If you need pictures, let me know.

There are only two receiver tubes to my knowledge: Curt and Hidden Hitch.
I have the 60209 Hidden Hitch (U-Haul labels it 24821).
It also is a close 1/4" gap on an SE (would not clear the chrome muffler tip).

Looking close at pictures, you may notice a short piece of rubber inner tube on the hitch square tubing (applied with two-sided adhesive tape) as it would sometimes knock when car was new. Six months later, rubber suspension hangers must have relaxed somewhat and knocking doesn't occur anymore.

My Canadian 2012 SE was equipped with an energy-absorbing beam fitted between frame and bumper sub-assemblies... this would not allow fitting the hitch (underneath or over it) because of it's embossed design. I had to remove that beam. Not really a concern as the energy-absorption features of the inner bumper (styrofoam + beams + sub-assy's) is compromised anyway by fitting a stiff rigid cross bar running across such as a hitch.

Take it to a local muffler shop and they can cut off the bent part, and weld on some pipe that will clear the hitch just fine. I don't know what your shops charge in Canada but where I live it's a pretty cheap fix. Alternately, they can just cut your existing pipe and rotate it a bit so it clears.

Yeah hidden hitch has a different install procedure from the curt because of how it sits. I agree to take it to a shop and have them "adjust" it for you.

Possibly they may even just bend the hangers to clear it.

No problem glad we could help! I've been there before myself on here lol.

A few years ago I had a very odd low flicker from one headlight when my DRLs were on. I thought it was an expensive repair. Asked for help on here and Kaotic said "check your fuse box, each headlight has it's own fuse." Sure enough one fuse was blown because a body shop put a 7.5a fuse in a 10a spot and it finally blew. Never would have thought it would be so simple and cheap.
