new models v. best models

Hey guys,

Last week I went out and purchased a 2009 yaris sedan. unfortunately due to some complications with my contract i had to take advantage of my cooling off period and bring it in.

I have a relative who works for Toyota who can get me a great discount on a new yaris sedan, at roughly the same price i paid for the 09. Only thing is it has to be the 2012 model. Now I've heard some debate over whether or not they're any good and to be frank, i'm not a fan of buying a brand new car.

What, in your opinion, is the best year (so far) of the yaris? I'm open to the 4-door hatchback, as well.

I was set on the 2009s and 2010s, but i'm looking into the 2011s and, of course, the 2012 models now. Any opinions on changes in the body style/feature upgrades that may have hurt/helped the performance or style of the car?

If anyone could give some feedback that'd be great
Thanks!

2012 sedan? Nobody has ever seen one yet, and it is very unclear if there will even be a 2012 sedan. That said, your Toyota relative is obviously pushing you into a hatch. As far as 09-11 is concerned, there really is no one year better than the other.

Since I'm not rushing out to buy one tomorrow, i may very well be considering the 2012 models towards the end of the year. Right now his deal does require me to get a 2011, and if i wait it will require a 2012 so i'm not sure if that's the best thing.

I suppose my real question is...is it worth it to spend the extra $$ to get a brand new yaris? Would you?

i'd be patient and look on craiglist for a low mileage used 07-08 sedan for sale by an individual. i bought my 07 sedan with 58k a year ago from an individual for $6800. it's still worth more than that today.
