Wow! The Smart Car wheel base is only 73.5 inch (186.7 cm) compared to the Yaris 3-door LB at 96.9 inch (246.1 cm)!

Must be horrible in snow... wheel base and weight combined?

there's actually been an article in recent issue of both road and track and motor trend about taking the smart car up thru british columbia into alaska, iirc.

handles fine in the snow -- like any car, you just need snow tires

Atleast the Smart Car is rear wheel drive. Too bad the Yaris can't say the same.

I did not know the Smart Car is rear wheel drive. Once you said that I wondered how it would drift. Check it out:

The car in this video is heavily modded but still, not too shabby for such a wee car.

Actually, the car in the photo would have a wheelbase of 71.3 inches. The 3rd gen model which made it into the US is longer at 73.5

no, i drove one out east, the acceleration is pretty horrible if you need to get moving.....moreso because of the transmission which always granny shifts gear-gear

much better economy with the diesel, though
