With a new Babe, a small cozy place is perhaps better then a big one. That is, until they start walking..

If you're an invester, buyin realestate when the market is depressed isn't wise. However, if you're looking for a home to live in, buying when the market is down is ideal. Personally, I don't think it'll go anywhere for the next few years, since the economy is going to take awhile to recover, so no rush.

that makes no sense at all, it's the perfect time for investors to buy -- if they have the money.

I suspect he is referring to investing in terms of flipping realestate, not long term holding.

My father-in-comonlaw is the property sales manager for a new condo development outside of Shediac. Pre-construction sales started while we were out there this past summer. I almost signed on a unit, but now I think I'm glad I didn't. I think As always, hindsight will tell.

1. you know nothing of the canadian economy, especially in the martimes...

2. my price is canadian funds...so my 145k sale price is about 108kUSD

Yet in Toronto you can't find a decent house which isn't in gangland for under 375, so there's no way his house is overpriced.

Also, Canadians are very cheap and if it was overpriced it would have never sold!

We're not "very cheap", just 'very poor' in comparison to our US brothern. Our cost of living is outrageously high when you take all cost into consideration. Homes (generally), insurance, vehicles, fuel, taxes ... all the big hitters are cheaper in the US with the exception of food which is comparable.

In comparison to the US I think you're right. When I said cheap, I was thinking globally. We don't have a selection of certain things here, because will not pay for them or see a value in them. A good example is our produce and meat where everything seems to be listed as grade AAA, but many europeans and asians wouldn't consider buying a box of moldy strawberries when they're on sale for 1.99.

It's one reason why there is so much more selection in their car configurations in those places as well. People I know from those areas of the world thing North Americans are very cheap and living in a disposable society.

the reason europeans have such selection in car configuration is that their gas is like 4$/L and they tax based on emissions...

so ya, there are more engines available and they buy more small cars. why? because they realize the large, gas intensive vehicles are too expensive

north americans have had it so good for so long that they dont (or didnt?) blink at buy 4.6L v8 vehicles for daily drivers......i wouldnt either when gas is $1/gallon!

north americans will simply not spend 30k on a 1.5L car even if it has leather, moonroof, nav, blah blah blah....not unless gas stays up at 1.30/L or $3/gal
