Tips for installing axleback

I have the Megan racing axleback along with new bolts,nuts,springs and metal (donut gasket)?

This all came with the muffler.

I dont want any opinions or comments on how its a crappy muffler but just some tips for installation.

It is winter here and will be doing outside.

I have ramps,floor jack,scissor-jack,air ratchet/sockets at my disposal.

What would be the best way to approach job.

I have sprayed the bolts daily for 3 days anticipating the removal of the bolts as I plan to do tomorrow...unless it would be better to bring to shop and have mechanic do it.

Thanks for any pointers/tips in advance.

Throw it on ramps, soak the bolts one more time, soak the hanger rods where they go into the rubber, crack the bolts loose by hand slowly then zip them out, pry the hangers out of the rubbers and viola.

Use a wirewheel on a drill to clean the flange surface where the old gasket was

muffler

(Crack by hand first)

Is this so I dont possibly break the bolt with the sudden jerk of the impact gun?

I should also have a socket on the nut aswell otherwise the bolt will just spin...correct?

I will pickup a wire wheel tomorrow aswell.

I replaced the muffler on my 07 HB last year and it went pretty smoothly. You'll need to raise the back of the car and take off the rear passenger side wheel which will give you access to the muffler flange bolts. You're better off using an impact on the rusty exhaust bolts as they are less likely to break then with a breaker bar or ratchet. I used a cheap Canadian Tire electric impact and the bolts came out no problem. Getting the exhaust hanger donuts can be a pain but if you spray them down in silicone spray them they slide off with a little help of a pry bar. You could also used WD-40 or brake cleaner in a pinch. My muffler flange gasket was disintegrated so if your's as bad you'll need to spend some time scrapping out pieces of the gasket from the midpipe under the car. I just reused my exhaust bolts after I cleaned the treads with a wire wheel and put on some anti seize. Some mufflers have a welded in nut in the flange like on the factory muffler, mine replacement Walker muffler didn't so I needed to buy new ones. Make sure you tighten down the two bolts evenly and check for any exhaust leaks around the flange with your bare hand. I had to undo the bolts and re-position the gasket after the first time I tighten them unevenly and got a leak around the gasket.

A mechanic got back to me and said he will do for $40.00

If it were spring,summer or I had access to an enclosed environment then I would do myself.I could wait but want it done ASAP.

I got mine straight pipe sound like a fiat Abarth 500 not to loud not like a hybrid 😂😂😂😂

This is like a 20-30 minute job. If you can turn a wrench, you shouldn't have any issues with this install. Very easy.

One of the primary reasons for becoming a member of this community is to learn how to do stuff yourself. Seriously, changing the engine air filter is almost more difficult than changing the exhaust.

Do you do your own seasonal tire changes, or pay someone to do that too? If you do them yourself, wait until spring and replace the exhaust when you already have that corner of the car in the air.
