If your talking about the Yaris Rear Drum Brakes, yes they can be converted into a Rear Disc brake system. You can buy the kit from Microimage Shop.

Hope that helps.

How much of a difference did it make in your braking?

Another thought is instead of upgrading to discs is to do what we can to optimize the performance of the drums. Any thoughts???

Generally the rear brakes only account for about 30% of your braking power. Any changes you make need to be balanced with the front brakes or the rear wheels will lock up and lengthen your stopping distance. (Assuming you don't have ABS.)

Disc brakes are harder to use with a parking brake. Most cars with 4-wheel discs have an auxiliary parking brake drum.

They do make calipers that have a lever that pushes the pads together for the parking break but it’s been used on few cars and still dose not have all the bugs worked out yet. I’m sure one of the manufactures will start using it soon and will be a new problem for the masses. At one point one manufacture will out way the issue of fewer parts to build into a car to the issue of fixing them under warranty…

If you want to keep your drums but upgrade performance, order custom shoes (from me, of course) with CarboTech material to improve bite and grab, plus stainless lines and better fluid.

Otherwise, our rear disc conversion is very good. I've been using it on both track and street for several months with no problems.

Like discs, do drums need to be resurfaced if you are putting in new drum brake pads? The stainless lines sound like a good idea as well.

Drums typically are turned when the shoes are replaced. Lately my shop has found new Chinese disks and drums for most cars that cost little more than turning them, so they usually just get replaced with new ones.

Dust is what you get when brake linings wear.
