Don't you realize you could run the "worse" and "cheapest" dino oil in your car and it will still last 300,000 miles? I think Valvoline synthetic oil is great, fantastic, wonderful, but this 300k warranty gimmick is for suckersl people lacking experience will get sucked in. These days ALL synthetic oils are great and NONE of them will cause any engine failure unless misapplied, and even then, the margin of safety is huge. And don't full yourself: Valvoline knows darned well it will NEVER have to pay ANY claims... Wise up! |

It is very evident oil is one of the areas people have the most opinions about. As a new Amsoil dealer I read these posts with alot of interest, and learn more each time.
I have no reason to doubt the 300,000 mile guarantee. I think that would come to 75 oil changes if required every 4000 miles. One type of Amsoil Synthetic allows 25,000 miles under many conditions and 15,000 for what they term as severe conditions (Signature Series 35,000/17,000). That would be 12 to 20 changes respectively. Assuming my math is correct, thats at least 300% less times even if 15,000 intervals are used. Since most filters need changing at oil changes as well, I would think that could save substantial money over 300,000 miles if the rest of the car made it that long. Oil analysis can also provide a user with information that can allow the oil to stay in the vehicle longer. Keeping any oil clean with quality filtration would seem to keep wear to a minimum. Check out TruLube.com for more information on costs, oils and filters etc... |

I'll check on the filter recommendations with Amsoil tech when I get back home in a couple days.

I think what they like to see is a regular WIX filter for the XL series oil, filter good for 7,500 miles, and the Ea filters (made by WIX) are guaranteed for 25,000 miles, or one year.

hmmm tempting offer... but I plan to go to the group V synthetic oils someday and run 10 or maybe even 15k, with filter changes every 3-5k. I go aprox 4800miles per change on group III/IV oils right now.
I have no doubts the engine will last 300k.... its everything else i'm worried about. |

Ok so if you go on averages here... Average mileage put on a car a year is 12k right? At that rate it would take 25 years to hit 300k. If you buy the Ea filter from AMS oil at $16 each from Lazerdot's site trulube.com thats 16 filter for a total of $400 dollars in filters and if you were to buy the WIX filters at $9 (sorry rounded up) you would need to buy 40 for a total of $360 over that 300k mark. If you bought the Signature Series once a year from Lazerdot that would come to $42 a year in oil and $1050 through the 300k "goal". Average quick lubes about $45 for a synthetic oil change. You would have to do 3 of those a year for Valvolines guarantee so that's $135 a year in oil changes and for a grand total of $3375 through out the guarantee. So IMHO $1450 is better than paying $3375. I could find a better way to spend that extra $1900.

Ashland ( Valvoline) is up for sale. Who knows if the new ownership will honour the warranty. My cars are usually used up by 50K (trans) so it so doesnt matter to me. BTW I'm running Valvoline 10w-30 synpower and it is the worst oil Ive had in there by far. Gas milage is down 4 mpg 38>34, and power and drivability is bad. maybe shoulda gone with the 5w-30. Anyway synpower is not a synthetic oil, just grp-III. Exxon M1 AFE going in next which is a semi synth at best also, but I expect good things from it.
