Spare tire question......................

For anyone who might know, i've looked around and can't find an answer so here is my question;

Does anyone know if the spare tire "wheel well" has room enough to hold a full sized spare tire? 15"

I just returned from a roundtrip from SE Massachusetts to Columbus ,OH. 727 miles each way give or take.

And while on the road, at 3 in the morning with hundreds of miles to go I was thinking the next time I do this I would feel better with a full sized spare rather than the donut.

Cheers,

NEexpat

BTW- MPG for the trip out 43.4, return 44.1

It fits width-wise, but it is about 4" too high for the rear floor area.

Thanks Scott.

I think I can live with that just for extended trips.

cheers

You could aways also rig up a "box" of sorts to cover it when you go that route. Or you could even fabricate a sturdier trunk panel like I did and have it with a "box top" to accommodate the tire during those trips...just a thought:

I think this is a great idea for someone like me (who has extra room when I travel) barring any drawbacks other than loss of space. The only negative I can think of would be that the weight difference between a stock tire (size) mounted on a stock steelie and the space saver might effect MPG. Do yo know what the difference (in weight) is between the single space saver tire+rim setup and a stock 185/60-15 tire mounted on a stock 15" Yaris steelie?

fnkngrv - Mate, that's a nice job on that panel.

WeeYari - you bet, it's about peace of mind.

I had never travelled all the way through PA. only as far as Harrisburg, I really enjoyed the trip. Although on the westbound leg I drove through 5 Rain/Storm cells so severe that people were pulling off the highway till they passed.

cheers
