European Yaris Possible u joint clack noise when I put into reverse.

Has anyone faced this kinda problem before?
I have been facing this problem for just over six months.
This annoying clank noise occures if i put into reverse shift and by the way if I go straight backwards there is no clank if I turn the steering wheel at the same time clank noise comes. There is no clank while i am going forward even if I turn the steering wheel at the same time.

Yaris steering clank noise full lock reverse

Does it only make this clank at, or just approaching, full lock (most angled tires) and, as you note, in reverse gear? Is the vehicle always moving when you get the clank?

Excactly, As long as I move backwards on full lock I am hearing this annoying clank/rattle noise.

yaris full lock steering freeplay clank mystery

I haven't for awhile, but am not alone here w/ an apparently good condition Yarii exhibiting a sort of freeplay looseness getting taken up at full lock. Not necessarily always in reverse, and can be more of a feel in the steering wheel (car, seat of the pants) than a noise.
Seems to be a yet unexplained mystery.
Need to get a look at things in full-lock, but low car is hard to crawl under and can't run up the ramps at full-lock.(duh!)
What parts are real close or touching? Is something in the linkage going over-center?
Maybe my prior owner never got to full lock in the first 135 k miles, and there was some dried grease crud near end-of-travel on the actuator of the electric assist?

Sounds utopic to me :)

I had the same problem, and even filmed it with my phone, to send it to a mechanic friend. 99% it's the CV joints. That was the problem with my yaris.
Cheers

What did the phone convey? noise? some part(s) stick-release motion?
Did the boots of CV-joints show cracks and/or lube leaking out?

I had recorded it with an external microphone which I attached to one wheel arc, and had clear sound of it. I just took it to the mechanic and replaced the left CV joint with a brand new one, 45€ installed. I didn't see my old part, as I blindly trust him.

The sound was like metal clicking.
