MAINT REQ'D light question...

Yes. I know what it means. It's the "Time to change your oil cuz I said so" light. Question is, though, is this light an actual oil monitor light or is it just set to click off every 3K or 5K or whatever K miles on the odometer?

I changed my oil last time it clicked on and used synthetic. Like clockwork it seemed, 5K miles later, it started blinking and then just stared at me. I used the same reset procedure to turn the light off and it hasn't come back on yet. This makes me think that it isn't an actual oil life monitor, just a "take to stealership so they can rip you for an oil change" light.

Any input?

Pix for clix.

It's just odometer based.

Yes, it's just your standard 5K service interval light, but you can easily turn it off on your own: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3940

Heh, sorry. Cute girl is a co-worker. We dated briefly but were best as friends. She wanted to do a shoot and Poivre snuck into some of the shots.

Anyway, thanks for the link and the confirmation. The light coming on what seemed at exact mileage intervals had me wondering. I'm not going to piss away synthetic oil every 3K miles. That's ridiculous.
