Walmart 5W-30 Regular Oil $12 for 5 quarts and you can run it just as long as synthetic oil according to the owners manual.

Oh and when I drove to AK last summer I did 5200 miles there on regular oil and 5200 miles back on synthetic oil.

There was no difference in mileage.

For each their own . At $3 > $4 a quart for the Shell synthetic it's worth it . If not using the Shell syn would go with the Pennzoil conventional or the Shell as a second choice for a conventional .

Owners manual states 5000 mile changes on conventional oil. synthetic doesn't need to be changed for 10,000. Amsoil has synthetic that doesn't need changing for 25,000 or one year.

Do you run an oil filter for 25,000 miles?

My VWs in the 60s had no oil filter and only 2.5 quarts of oil and the engines ran 100,000 miles between rebuilding. The main bearings lasted longer too but I replaced them anyway.

I dont suppose you really need an oil filter anyway.

you can change a filter without changing the entire oil....

btw, i don't run amsoil for 25,000, i'll change it around 10,000. with a 10,000 mile royal purple synthetic filter. Which I wouldn't dare do with dino oil and a paper filter....

but do we really need to get into another oil debate? if you want to run dino, go for it. if you want to run synthetic, go for it....
