Boosting my 543,000 mile Yaris

Hey guys, I'm planning on boosting my Yaris at 543,000 miles without any engine rebuild. I would like to start off with the maximum amount of safe boost without any engine management.

I already purchased the turbo manifold and downpipe (Plan to weld a bracket to it so it doesn't crack or break) from Zage. I also found a new Golden Eagle intake manifold on eBay for a steal from Italy. I'm going to be using a custom GT2554R turbo. I'm drilling my block for the oil drain. And I'm using my throttle body coolant lines to cool the turbo.

Questions:

1. Do I use my stock fuel pump or is there an upgraded fuel pump available?

2. Do I use my stock injectors or do I need to use the 1zz injectors? If so, from what year Corolla?

3. Should I use an adjustable FMU for increasing fuel pressure on boost?

4. What's the stock compression ratio for the 1NZ?

5. Has anyone had there cylinder head ported?

Tip:
I know some ppl have low idling issues with the 1zz throttle body. Now bcuz our cars doesn't have an adjustable IAC, or idle screw on the throttle body, what I've done is loosen the adjustment screw on the throttle body till the high rev on cold start is at normal level. This took a couple days to get the desired cold start idle rpm. Once I accomplished that, I then took a 1/16" drill bit and drilled a tiny hole in the middle of the lower flap of the throttle body to increase my idle rpm. And it worked just fine for me.

I'm not sure that any boost is safe without engine management. Even the Blitz has a piggyback to force the ECU into open loop when the clutch engages.

Thanks for the tip on the TB. I may have to try that on mine since it keeps stalling at idle.

1) stock fuel pump can handle up to roughly 7-8psi safely. After that you need to finesse a bit to not have a l3an condition.

2) would recommend 1zz injectors for ip to once again 7-10psi.

3) what is an FMU?

4) 10.5:1

Now to the very important part. You are not going to do more that 2-4psi of boost without a piggyback to manage your fuel. Even at 4psi depending on your altitude, outside temps, barometric pressure, etc on a 500k engine you could be in for some trouble at 4psi without fuel management. Most people have used the AEM FIC and swear by it. I consider them total junk.

As for the fuel pressure you want the pressure to rise 1:1 normally so in otherwords 1psi of pressure for 1lb of boost. Since the stock fuel pump has a built in regulator the only way around it without doing a fuel system upgrade is to have the stock FPR modified to allow more flow. Most folks half ass it by putting in even bigger injectors to overcome the stock FPR. Scott and I have done extensive research and testing on the stock fuel system much of our findings are noted on my build threads.

Can you please post the link to modifiy the stock FPR to get more pressure and/or a link to eliminate the stock FPR?

There really isn't a link to modify the regulator. You have to compress it and also have a flow bench to verify you haven't damaged it. Scott is on vacation so not sure if he will see this to chime in about it. The only way to eliminate it would be to do a full fuel system; aftermarket fuel pump, FPR, return style fuel rail, etc. If you are only looking to do up to 7-8psi on a daily you can get away with the bigger injectors.

If all goes well I will be selling off my MI long runner sometime in the next couple months. Whomever buys it (big list of folks saying the want it) will need to have the cash ready immediately as I will need to use that cash to have my new custom manifold fabricated. Problem with parts for a Yaris over a couple hundred bucks is that a lot of people say they want it, but can't or don't produce the $$$.

I found my modified stock FPR. It will take FP up to 50psi before boost then as boost rises it will drop but never below 52psi which would support up to 10psi just fine.

How much you asking for it? I made arrangements with Scott to send an extra one I had laying around for him to modify. But depending on your price, it might more feasible to buy yours.

I think it is safe to say....you shouldn't have any issues regarding the Toyota warranty. 564594 miles! How many drivers side seat replacements have you needed to do? I would think the seat would be a custom form fit by now....
