Hatch strut mount snapped

So today while closing my hatch heard a clunk and well end result, left side strut mount on the hatch side nearly pried off.

Things to note:
upgraded the struts to 120lb
lots of sound deadening mass vinyl so the upgraded struts was a must
probably slammed the hatch a few good times cramming things in
had the stronger struts for 3 years?

Fixed with Strap Toggles

I don't think slamming the trunk would inflict that much damage to the mounts. Looks more like there was additional stress when opening the hatch beyond the stock height. Were the upgraded struts the exact same length as OEM? Could be possible that 120lb struts opened the trunk much wider than the OEM ones did.

I fixed it that same night. Crazy idea that actually worked....

Drilled the hatch side where the mount goes big enough to put a toggler snap toggle in, and also drilled the mount itself. So now the mount is anchored to the hatch as if it were a TV or wall fixture. Cost me just the togglers I had on hand or about 4 bucks.

I think the mount has the most pressure on it while closing the hatch as the strut is pushing against the weld. Its the same length strut so I don't think its over extending.... That's more of the hatch mount to the car frame issue. If theframe cracks where the bolts are that would suck.
