I put a mask on and hit it with compressed air. Then I pulled the drum and really hit the innards with air. Sent the drum for powder.

I took the front pads out at 75,000 kms and there was 7mm left, new pads have 11.4mm depth of friction material, subtract the little bit from the wear groove to the backing plate which I didn't measure, 1mm???.

OEM pads/shoes last forever.
Watch your wear after you cheap out on the replacements.
I've nearly 90,000 kilometers on my sedan and the original stuff is just fine (all street).
I ,might upgrade with Garm's stuff come spring. Some ass-kicking upgrades would be sweet inside my 18's (but wouldn't fit inside my 14" winters).

OEM Pads and Routers, replaced at 128,000km (lots of highway driving). Going to get the original routers turned and put them back on - we'll see how they do with turning them down.
haven't tackled the back as of yet, another month or two when it warms up.
they still had a little life left in them, but they were pretty much done.

i got a hb 07 yaris and put on at least 53k miles on my hb, the only thing i did recently is resurface my rotors cus my pads are still good, from what i heard, i still got like 75%on it, and as for the rear ones, i am bout to check it out this coming up week and see if i need change it, most likely i would need to clean it and adjust it so that i can have a better stop response. as for pads wise, hp pads, ebcs pads, and any higher performance pads are great. if u decide to upgrade it to better ones, i would suggest upgrade ur rotors as well for better results.

well, they look about half worn, maybe more. it looks like you have glaze build-up. you should hit them with a heavy grit sandpaper. (like 120 or 220)

Not to stir up any conflict here but I'm at 155k miles with original stock pads with no issues, all highway miles.

@Nahid, those pads are still good and I notice they have tattle tells on them too.

My 06 Yaris has 125K miles and is on its 3rd set. I think i had the OEM's replaced at 60K by a garage but they used cheap ones which i replaced at around 96K with pagids from Euro car parts. I serviced the front brake hardware and changed the fluid at 110K miles and they seemed like they had plenty of wear left in them.

I think my mechanic also rebuilt my rear brake shoes at around 70-80K. There was still 3-4mm of material on them when i inspected them last April.

he ripped you off! I think they are 5mm new. I inspected, cleaned, and adjusted my rear shoes on my last car (civic) every 40-50,000 miles (48-80,000km) but never replaced them. I bought them twice, pulled the drum, then returned shoes to the parts store. I sold the car, with factory shoes, at 338,000 miles (544,000km)

unless you drive with the parking brake on, or you have a leak from the wheel cylinder, you should never need to replace the rear shoes...

I run a fleet of over 50 toyota yaris cars for a delivery company. Typically the fronts and rears wear close to eachother. We replace the pads and shoes at about the same interval. This is 70,000mi to 110,000 miles. These are fleet cars that are after loaded with parts and it's in the Seattle area so it's constant stop and go. These are all 2012 to 2016 models. I cannot speak to the older yaris. They also are all manual trans. So better life than auto trans for brakes due to downshifting and using the engine to brake more. They have very solid brakes. It seems like the first thing to break is the manual trans 2nd and 3rd gear Synchro rings before anything else. Next is brake pads and shoes. Then the clutch at about a hundred and twenty thousand miles.

I don't understand why people use the transmission to slow down. Brake pads are way easier to replace than shredded synchros.
