Rattling noise

Ok so I hope some one has had this happen and knows how to make it stop. When I'm in drive or reverse and I am at a stop light there is an annoying rattling sound, it sounds like its coming from the engine bay, I just cant find it. The car is a 2007 Sedan with 40,000 miles on it. If anyone has any ideas of what this noise could be, please let me know.
Thanks,
Jimmy

There are too many possible rattles under the hood to diagnose from afar. You're going to have to get under the hood and listen to narrow it down.

I had a similar problem they tightened/adjusted a shift linkage type cable I believe it was called, maybe someone can advised there was a TSB on it per the Toyota dealership. I hope this helps or gets you in the right direction. I wish I could tell you more.

I had the same thing (or similar)...it was a rock under the heat shield of the exhaust pipe.

rattling noise

in my yaris sedan, i narrowed it down to the air filter box. however,
i haven't been able to fix it yet because i haven't had time to tinker
with it and find out which screw or bolt to tighten.

I wanted to add one more item to check that was a rattle in reverse and idle... see if the air intake duct is vibrating against the hood release cable. I had noticed that my air box vibrates at idle and the air intake duck (hard plastic) would vibrate cause its mounted together and it was hitting and also cutting the shield off the hood release cable. But this made a lot of rattle.

that was the exact same problem with my car... so all i did was taped the cable to the body of the car so there is a bit of enough gap between the cable and the air intake duct.

I've had two similar rattles that I've easily fixed using ordinary zip ties ...

The first was a lower pitched rattle that did not sound like metal-on-metal, but rather more like loose plastic ... occurred when car was idling at a stop light with the trans in "Drive" (D) ... figured it out as being the snorkel on the Air Box (front right under the hood facing the car) ... it wasn't fitting snugly to the Air Box and was vibrating causing the noise ... wrapped a long zip tie around it and strapped it tightly to the nearest hood stop ... and stopped the annoying rattle!

Second was the infamous vibrating transmission control cable covered in a TSB ... again, using a zip tie I secured the cable to the bracket just above it ... accessed it from under the hood (thankfully I have small hands!).

Both fixes took about 5 mins each and cost practically nothing (zip ties are dirt cheap now-a-days!)
