wow.. 300k miles on one set of brakes? All very flat freeway I'm assuming?

I'm jealous... I'm at 60k with 5 sets of pads and 2 rotors down. (I live at the top of a big hill )

Also, the reason why the current car is working well, is because of the maintenance and the constant highway driving. A new Yaris will behave like the old one, once you've got it broken-in for the highway/high-speed.
There's a sentimental value to this Yaris that he's taking to the limit. A new one wouldn't be as special. The higher the miles, the more pride he has in it.

Also, if he were to switch out the engine, then the miles are meaningless and illegitimate to the car.

Wouldn't you feel a sense of pride for achieving 500,000 miles in 4-5 years and still be going strong in a car?

Wow, that's ridiculous!

I'm assuming you don't use engine braking?? You should.

Don't keep it in drive when going down the hills, cruise down the hill in low gears 1,2, or 3 depending on what speed you want to descend. Your brakes will thank you.

you're right! it's sentimental value and the more miles I put on it, the more pride I have in it.

Huh? I didn't say anything about switching out the engine. Unless I misread a previous post, Trini said that one of the dealerships was willing to swap his old Yaris and give him a new one in its place. Sound like an awsome deal to me, especially when it's a work car.

But, it would be cool to see a Yaris with 1/2 million miles on it do a top speed run (in a controlled race track and hopefully with sponsors footing the bill).

I guess I'm misunderstanding you? Unless when you say fresh engine you mean new car.

Anyway, this car with 300K is worth more to him than a new one. It's kinda like how an antique becomes more valuable even though it becomes less functional.

I'd take the new one and run.
There's only so much longer before things will start to fail little by little.....

Couldn't this be considered with the old saying "They don't build them like they use to"

Trini.. is a very valuable asset for Yaris owners because it gives us a rare glimpse of the quality, reliability, and longevity of our cars while there still so young ('07 and up). Most new car owners never have this kind of example and have to find out themselves as they pile on the mileage.

This beats the hell out of Consumer Reports!!

Congratulations! Good to know the Yaris will last that long without major drive train issues with proper maintenance.

300,000 miles in 2.5 years means that you are driving 10,000 miles/month!
Wow, what do you do for a living?

Consumer reports has no qualms over the reliability of the car, they do have (unwarranted) issues with safety.

He did a 150K thread (which I think people are thinking about). But this is the only 300K thread.

The 150000 I remember was last fall before the hack so that means he did 150000 more in a little over 7 months??? Yikes. If it was 7 months since posting 150000 story, if I put in 210 days into 150000, that yields a daily average drive (7 days a week) of 714 miles. Is that possible?????????????????????????????????????????

He had 150,000 in august 07, and 300,000 in february 09 - not 7 months. And very possible given his occupation
