Paint....

My Yaris had been in a small accident before I bought it, and because of this whoever repainted the bumper didn't do it right.

March

November

30 minutes with a garden hose

Good news, It's only $300 to have my body guy paint it up right. Looks like whoever did it first didn't do much prep work at all....I also don't have my S front lip.

Looks like they didn't clean it at all before painting.

Yeah, I found soil and dust underneath the paint.

And finding the front lip is a pain.

Well, with plastic you shouldn't really have to "prime" it, but it needs some sort of surface treatment for the paint to stick. Usually some sort of sanding coupled with an adhesive....none of that was done. It was simply sprayed and left on there.

You need to prime plastic. You'd use an epoxy primer so that the primer sticks to the plastic, and then the primer itself is sanded to create mechanical adhesion for the paint to stick to.

At least the paint was matched pretty well, though.

I paint for a living and that's clearly a lack of a plastic adhesion promoter step in the refinish process. Sometimes I'll get cars like this in my shop and we just blow off all the paint with a high pressure air hose.... and then repair it correctly

Wait did they steal your lip or are you just trying to find one? I have an s lip sitting in my garage that I got slightly used for 75. No cracks or broken tabs its just painted black. I haven't decided whether I'm gonna use it yet. Right now my place of residence has too many large speed bumps and I'm already 2.8" off the ground. But I got mine at a salvage yard. Check there too.

And doesn't all Toyota paint look like yours lol

Unfortunately this happens a lot with car repairs. It only has to last until someone else owns it. Glad you got it taken care of and looking good. I bet it really got under your skin at first though!
