YES! Get one of those big-ass antennae! And a linear big enough to burn up nearby cell phones! My grandparents are both operators (well, my GF was until he died, anyway). Those things are awesome!

Amatuer Radio in Sedan, Kenwood TM-D700

I've been planning and incrementally installing the TM-D700. I'm about half way there:
1. Larsen Dual band antenna, trunk-lip mount. Routed the coax along the passenger trunk hinge, then under the mouldings and along the floor pan beam. When you pop off the passenger rear and front floor scuff moldings the coax lays in a nice metal channel, without running parallel to any harnesses.

2. Pop off the glove box, there is a large area behind this box.

3. I'm trying to find a good place for the remote head. I've looked at alot of places, but, each had a significant enough disadvange to cause me to look some more.

4. I'm up and running. 73 KB3HMR

Sorry, no ideas on where to install, but the thought of the antenna made me think it would look like a RC car

what would be kool is an antennae that fits the contour of the body and a 5KW amp of course . I was thinkin about installing a 5 KW amp so I could run from the law . The Cops say you can't outrun a Motorola . They apparently don't know what a 5KW amp will do . I don't usually run from the law ( with the exception of last weekend ) , but it is nice to know that I can disrupt communications with just a flick of a switch .

Yaesu Rules BTW

do you think i need to reemplace the battery (very small) to use the ft-8800r?? there are 50w out in VHF!

I want to install the radio on rear, and the headunit in the front, i have the separation kit, but i do not know where to install the radio in the rear, or if it will be better installing radio in the front..
thank you.

Old thread revived for any other hams looking for a yaesu 7800/8800 install location.

Antenna wire is pulled low in last pic from testing a HT on the antenna and didn't tuck back in. Otherwise a pretty clean setup. Still need to paint the bracket to black or possible silver to match bezel. I debated about putting the main radio box under the seat but it muffled the audio too much for my liking in case storms or tollway use. Knees don't bump the radio either and I'm 6ft. Left storage pocket left of HVAC controls works great for mic holder.
