Battery and heater mods

A few questions :

1. What's the maximum battery size the engine bay can accept, i.e. how strong the battery tray is and what mods can be done to fit as big of a battery as possible ?

2. DIY heated mirrors ? I have power mirrors, wondering if there's an aftermarket replacement glass with heat pads available or if the stock glass can be taken off and have enough room to accept a heat pad behind it, and if the heat pad could be hazardous to the mirror assembly due to the heat ?

3. Heated windshield/interior. I don't like to idle my engine for several minutes in order to get hot air from the vents to help defrost my windshield in the icy mornings. I was thinking of installing an electric heat blower in the car or a quartz heater to warm up the windshield directly from battery power, on a relay and timer remotely activated with my remote starter "custom" button, and possibly also wire the rear window defogger to it, so I can have a headstart on deicing the windows in the morning without burning fuel and meaningless pollution. A 10"x1" quartz heater on the dashboard directed at the center height of the windshield would be very effective, but it's not easy to find such product. I do have a 1kw power inverter installed, so I can use either 12vDC or 120vAC power source.

4. If I install a 500w block heater, how long should I have it running when it's -20°C to make it worth ? Same for an 150w oil pan heated pad. Are we talking several hours or 15 minutes ?

I plan on moving the current battery in the rear and replace with a new bigger one, so I can run the defrosting gear off the secondary battery. My goal is deicing the windows as quick as possible.

Sounds like you need a garage :)
I would look into a coolant heater. It's what will make the interior warm/de-ice the fastest.

Keep in mind those batteries will need to be recharged as well. Your stock alternator will likely not live long trying to keep up to that demand.
Cheers.

I'm thinking of running an independent AGM battery in the rear, hooked up to my alternator with an isolator and a manual cut-off switch (so I can prevent the alternator trying to charge my rear battery when my engine is still cold), and still have to confirm if my car was equipped with the PTC heater, but if it does, I'd be looking to hooking it up on a parallel controller (as well as the blower motor) to the rear battery, and using the remote activation feature of my remote starter (and assuming I did leave the fan and blower mode knobs at full defrost) I would simply have the PTC heater and blower run to help warm up and defrost the car rather than starting the engine. Should be more effective and less aggravating for the environment too. And an automatic disconnect of the parallel controller upon activation of the ACC. relay when I'm about to start the engine.

Although I'm wondering if the use of the PTC heater without the engine running would be damaging because the heat radiator and the coolant aren't being moved around ?

Got around to an elegant solution. With my 1000w power inverter running off a group 27 deep cycle battery, with a parallel switch on a timer relay activated by my remote starter for the inverter, I bought a 750w Vornado personal space heater which I position on the floor in front of the front passenger seat, aiming to the center console, and plugged into the inverter. So far even at -7° C, running for only 5 minutes, the car is already cozy. Draw about 10% off my secondary battery per 5 minutes of use, which is being recharged later on the road when the engine is warmed up. It won't defrost the car, but it's terribly effective at warming up the cabin space in a very short time.
