Maybe not quite in the spirit of this thread but I sold something today, an NST pulley set to a local Yaris owner

Quite a ship too..... The IJN meant it to violate the "Washington Treaty" that banned large battleships. Sadly the Yamato was obsolete the day that it went down the slip..... the aircraft carrier would replace it.
It was quite a piece of engineering. The 18inch cannon were the largest ever put on to a battleship. Had the Yamato been around during World War I it would have been hell on the water. I've read that the US Navy was terrified of encountering it. Fortunately for the US the IJN lacked sufficient fuel to keep the Yamato on patrol. As a result it was easy to track, easy to locate but very tough to destroy. Took a lot of hits before it sank. The forge which made the Yamato's gigantic cannon (the largest guns that ever were put to sea) is still in business. Today they make samurai swords and nuclear pressure vessels. They're one of two forges large enough to do the job. I read that they have contracts on the books out to 2015. Gene |
