New rear bumper needed, what's the best way to go?

Hey everyone, first time poster here. Someone hit my 2007 HB last week and ran! So now I am stuck fixing my rear bumper myself.
I been shopping around online and found the cheapest bumper online that fits my car to be around 200$ shipped (from Rockauto).

Then I am going to get it painted at the local Maaco, another 200$, so total damage will be around 400$.

What do you guys think? Does anyone else have any other ideas on how I might be able to fix my bumper for less? I have checked local scrapyard but nothing came up.

If given the choice, I'd choose oem scrap vs newly painted. No matter who does the painting and whatever assurances anyone's ever given, repainted bumpers eventually chip and flake.

I was also hit in the rear of my 2007 sedan cracking it. I found a guy here that remelts them back to one piece and touches up the paint for $125 bucks. You can't even tell its been repaired. Might be worth looking around your area for a similiar repair.

betrivent: I took a look at craigs but no luck so far, thanks for suggesting it tho.

tk: I had the same concerns, talking to a mechanic today, I was told that maaco is notorious for being terrible paint. Now I am having second thoughts about my plan.

41: thanks for the tip, I never even considered it, will look into that. Where was your crack? Mine is across the top of the bumper where the bumper protector would go over.

If the guy still has it "rear bumper cover" is the official name for the bumper.

My crack was on the left side of the bumper running from about the tail light and almost cracking the bumper in half to the bottom. As I said did a great job and it doesnt even look like it was repaired. Good luck

Update:
Took the car to the shop, remelting is not an option according two body shops.
No luck with craigslist and junkyard.

I found an ebay shop that sells painted bumper, here is a link to the sedan bumper. Has anyone ever dealt with online shops that paints bumpers?

Hi,
You are still depending upon your luck. If this bumber cover carry any defect with it then what could you do? In this way you cant save more money but you are taking more risk.
I think you should spend $400 as you stated in your first option.
Anyway decision is always yours.

Auto body suppliers sell a special filler that works well with a bit of practice. Good stuff to use for customizing bumper covers too.
