in for updates.

Is the air stored in the tank in liquid form or gas form? Do you have anything installed to help regulate/monitor temps within the system?

Who are you getting covered by?

Air is gas as in oxygen. It's like adding air into your tires, except the air stored in a tank. There usually is a monitoring system with either analog gauges or digital gauges. It will tell you how much air (in psi) is in the tank and how much air is in each bag. No temperature gauge needed.

In for updates as well. Need more pics!

Typically when tanking a gas (ie: O2), the gas is compressed into a liquid form. This allows larger amounts of the molecule to be stored as the density of the molecule is increased thus freeing up space. I was just wondering if that is how these systmes operate. THat most likely would make it easier for the O2 to freeze.

What happens if the monitoring system reads the temp too cold or hot? Is there a failsafe that closes the lines or anything?

The air compressed in the tank is less than 200psi. It doesn't turn into liquid oxygen. Converting gaseous oxygen to liquid form would require several processes which would included cooling the gaseous oxygen at some -300 degrees. There may be a little heat generated in the tank from compression but not to a level that would be considered dangerous at all. It also doesn't freeze at all. Sometimes you might have to release some air from the tank into the atmosphere because the air in the tank can have moisture. When you do that, the air (and unwanted moisture, usually water) that exits will be a little cold. But it's not "freezing" like you would imagine.

The air suspension setup is basically like pumping your tires at the gas station. At the station, there is a tank, a compressor, a pressure regulator and hose with a valve. When you pump air into your tires it comes from the tank. When the tank runs low, a compressor kicks in and refills the tank. A pressure regulator sets the psi and tells the compressor to stop when air is filled to that psi level.

Now imagine you had that exact same setup except that it's all in your car. And instead of pumping your tires, you're pumping air into the airbags of your suspension. That's basically it. You could actually pump your tires from the tank if you attach a long enough hose to reach your tires.

There really isn't a "failsafe" but it usually fails if not installed properly. Common problems would be improper connections which causes air to leak or the rubber on the bags have rotted or cracked. Air suspension has actually been around for a long time (see huge semi-trucks that haul huge loads cross-country). It's just on a smaller scale now and available to the public. So problems mostly occur from not installing it properly. Otherwise they should last the life of your car ownership.

i don't air out as much. my tank will drain it self over night due to temp change. i did not put anti freeze in my tanks. i know a lot of vw people do this. the shop that installed my air told me not to as he never needed it. i will air out when it hits 25 degrees F and up but nothing below. i never had an issue with anything freezing. which is good :) i don't have anything else installed for the winter to help with the air set up its the same as it was in the summer. somehow i think it works better in the winter.... lol

we have so much snow now, as it fell during the night. If its not -287382 degrees out winter shoot will happen.

And if the air is pure O2 has a freezing point of like -390F and its condensation point is like almost -200f so I guess you wouldn't have to worry about that lol
