After AFE intake install: Check Engine light. Please help.

Hey everyone. Sorry I haven't been on for a while. I have been keeping track of gas milage on every fill up and I want to post it in August. I don't know how I feel about it. Are you less likely to get good gas milage in the summer? Cause my milage is sometimes bad lately. Also, the light thing is off... but it does still come on rarely (like for a two days at a time every two months)

ave mpg = 616.406/18 = 34.24

It looks like I am getting greater than a mile per gallon gain on average.

Lets say gas is 1 gallon = $3.75
$3.75

1/34 = .029

I would say I am getting back 2.9% of every gallon... .029 * $3.75 = $0.11 saved on every gallon on average... I spent $162 and time on the air intake system ....

$162/0.11 = 1472.72 gallons needed to make my money back... in the month of April I used about 41 gallons of fuel...

1472.72/41 = 35.92 months or 2.99 years, that is I need to make the car last 2.99 years after January 2012 to start making money back ... unless I can figure out a way to make it work better all the time.

I have 65K on the car now and in the month of April I drove 1,418.8 miles. Taking that as average, I approximately drive 17,025.6 miles a year. Car will be at about

(17,025.6 * 3) + 65K = 116,076.8 miles after that....

I gotta make it last a while after that to make any money back.

So, do you think it was worth it for me to buy the air filter? By the way, the Check Engine Light still comes on for a couple days every once in a while... I think I am going try spraying carburetor fluid soon.

Im averaging between 34-36mpg , but with tons of mods including the supercharger and with a bigger wheels setup.

you may want to go to a local advance autoparts when the CEL is on and borrow their CEL code scanner .. and go from there.

I just realized I made a few mistakes... the three years started January 1st so the milage I put on from then til now will have taken away from how much milage I said I would have on the car at the end of three years ... also I should've worked with more like 1.4/34 not 1/34 ...

Please let me know if you think I made any other mistakes ... or if your interested I could supply you with the miles I went for each fill up too. I got kind of lazy and went for more of a broad approximation I guess.

Also try some MAF sensor cleaner. I didn't get a CEL for over two months when I first installed my AFE, white spacers and all, but then after all the damned heavy rain we've had here in Georgia lately, the CEL came on and triggered P0101.

That same day I took the spacers out, cleaned the MAF again with sensor cleaner, reinstalled and haven't had a light since, and that was over 2 tanks of gas (~600 miles) ago. The CEL light was on for me for a total of less than 30 miles.

Installed AFE intake tuesday night without white spacers and removed the negative battery! Only had a cel when i did not remove the negative battery but after i did, no more cel and we beat the engine to try to throw a cel and nothing :) Ps installed on 2012 yaris :) Thank u to all the advice here on Yarisworld!

What partnumber are did you install? Is it the one for the 07-up yaris hatch?

Yes i believe it was because my cousin works for toyota and was looking for at the instructiions was like this isn't for the 2012 yaris but he made it work anyway. I'll take a picture of it and post it on here later. Ps i read here that it didn't matter what year because they fit and i believe them and the advice that people give here are honest advice. My car has an intake and works great!

I think those oiled filters can cause havoc on the MAF sensors too. I had this AFE intake too, but found when it rains or when you wash the car water shoots onto that black metal pan. I'd recommend a gasket like Garm used to sell that seals off the hood gap...

haven't experienced rain yet but i did have a carwash recently with no issues. Might get the gasket from Garm just in case

but its a dry filter.

also i bought the hood liner and it helps with the rain.

OP is your cel still coming on?
