Very interesting - thanks for scanning and posting the pictures.

Amazing how long it takes to get these designs to the good old U.S. of A.

The drawing in the article doesn't look a whole lot different than many of the Yarii pics posted on this Forum.

(FYI: There is alot of great industrial design over there, especially in Milan. From someone who is 100% Italian.)

True, but don't see that many Echos either. Maybe it's our failing eyesight!

Also, don't remember it being billed as an European design - just another small Japanese car.

FYI: We just completed a week-long camping trip on the OR coast - never saw even one Yaris in probably 500 miles of dirving.

main different is the bigger arches and rims, and the lower, more slung-back roof line. Small differences, but it could be done with someone experienced in welding

I think the old hot-rodders term for lowering the roofline like that is that it needs to be "chopped". The drawing is far sleeker than the actual production model - as is usually the case.

Had one of those Ahh-ha moments today.

We were walking back from coffee this afternoon when an Echo drove by. It was then it dawned on me as to why I didn't see the car in the 1999 Italian Design Magazine as a one that had been imported to America.

It is a 4-Dr hatchback and all the Echo's here are Sedans (both 2 & 4 door models). Very different look.
