second link somewhat helps, but then again thats for the older gens... i realize they probably might use the same parts for the newer gen as well. but thats why i asked on the 3rd gen forum, so i can see if anybody with a 3rd gen has tried this yet. and that third thread link you sent showed NOTHING at all. yes i did search, and found nothing pertaining to any of the threads i put up over the last week and finally now im getting a response .... this forum is going to shit

you seem to think you are in the late 90's modding civics.
You aren't. There are not thousands of people that have already done every mod you could even think of. Odds are you are the first to even think of doing this. I'd be shocked if they changed any of the lights in the 2012, so everything about the older models will work.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/390402270580...84.m1439.l2649 I decided to stick with OEM bulbs for map lights as they seem nice and comfortable.. LEDs are @too sharp@ when used while driving (to my taste) Also used these for parking lights http://www.ebay.com/itm/260981511370...84.m1439.l2649 and brake lights http://www.ebay.com/itm/130619220449...84.m1439.l2649 Mine is 09 Hb.. yours should be comparable |

Now, I just tried the one you spec for your parking lights as map lights and I don't care for them in that application. They are definitely not as bright as the OEM bulbs, but I'm thinking it's because only 1 of the SMD's is outward firing. The other 4 point to the sides. Now, I'm sure some of that light gets reflected out, but maybe not enough for map lights. Between that and the very cool white color range it is not pleasant to try to read with them. I'm willing to try to compromise on the color if I can just get one that is bright enough to light text well. I want LED's for map lights because I worry that one of us will leave one on and an LED will consume a lot less juice than an incandescent. (I think....) I have ordered this one to try: http://www.ebay.com/itm/W5W-Pair-Fro...item3cc85e23c9 I'll let you know how it works out. [Update] OK, I definitely find the above front firing bulb to be better for map lights than the (5)-SMD 360 degree type I tried the first time. I tried them side-by-side and the 1.5W one is definitely brighter--not like night and day, but definitely noticeable. I'm going to have to get used to the cooler color, though. I see now that they have warm white options, but they seem to be more expensive for some reason. I have since learned a little more about LED bulb options and understand now that the 360 deg type was the wrong choice for map lights. But, since I was brand new at looking for LED's I didn't even know there were front firing options. Chalking it up to experience. Last edited by robkay; 07-08-2012 at 01:25 PM. |

Dude do your own research. If you can't find the size on the internet then go take the bulb out and look for the number printed on it. Go on Ebay type in the number. There should be a list of bulbs and LEDs that come up for that size.
