PLEASE don't take this the wrong way:

TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND ASK THEM IF THEY CAN DIAGNOSE IT. BUT ASK THEM IF IT WILL BE UNDER WARRANTY FIRST AND FOREMOST.

That is the best thing to do. period end of story... guy is obviously not a very 'skilled' mechanic or conveyor of his intentions/ideas. if he doesn't want to talk about the problems directly then walk away.

no, I think you're just trying to get to the bottom of this with the help of the forum (albeit limited help as we don't have access to the car)

if you do go to the dealer try to see if they can waive the diagnostic fee. plead your case they may be sympathetic.....

if they didnt know about the deisel incident, then I would assume your dealer would see that the cat(s) were gummed up or something similar, and replace under warantee without second thought.

I have the P0420 as well, is it best to have Toyota handle this one, or would any garage be able to troubleshoot this right the first time? I have reset mine it comes on the next time I fire up the car in the first 4 minutes of driving when it has sat for any length of time.
