Need a new bumper

Hi Yarisworlders,

I rear-ended into a big Chevy truck this morning, and it destroyed my
bumper. I'll need a new one, and Toyota collision said it'll cost $569.15.
Anyone have any advice on how I can get this fixed cheaper? My Yaris
is a 2010 and is black.
Thanks.

Is $569.00 painted and installed? If so, that's not bad actually. My Sedona just went into the shop as a guy pulled out in front of me. I'll need a new bumper cover and a quarter panel and it will be in the $2500.00 - $3000.00 range through insurance.

I'd go for that. Or, you could buy a painted bumper. In Canada you can get one painted and delivered for $299.00.

Probably cheaper in the US. The advantage of having it done at a body shop is that they will actually color match correctly using paint chips. OEM paint isn't always the same and they often go a shade or two in either direction for a better match and the often blend into an adjacent panel.

Thanks. That helps. I did have a body shop quote me $400, or maybe a little above, but the bumper would be aftermarket. I wonder if that would make a big difference compared with an OEM bumper?

OEM guaranteed perfect fit, aftermarket a crap shoot. Pretty much count on something not lining up quite right.

I too would prefer OEM parts but I spoke with the collision shop today and they said I am only approved for aftermarket parts with the exception of the inner fender. Through my insurance company I have a lifetime guarantee on the work the body shop does. I suppose I should dig out the policy and read the 'fine print'. The collision shop agent said that everything would be a prefect fit and color match when they are done. The only real issue I have is that I am not going to get an OEM headlight. I have used aftermarket headlights in the past and some of them suck outright. I may fight the insurance company on that. Current estimate on repairs is $3700.00 CAD which apparently is 45% of the net value of my van. Very glad it was not written off as it would be impossible to find a van in its shape and with all the audio and other electronic upgrades I've done for the pittance the insurance company would undoubtedly offer me.

I'll go with Toyota. Seeing that I want to keep this car for the long haul, might as well do it right. Thanks for all the help, guys.

enviri, thanks for thought. I appreciate that. Really wish I lived closer, too.
