After 5 years, I need new tires. Any suggestions?
Hi fellow Yarisworlders,
After almost 5 years, with the same stock tires I bought my Yaris with, I'm finding I need new tires. Do any of you have any suggestions for a nice set of tires that won't bust my bank account? Thanks! |

What sort of driving do you do? City? Hwy? Weather? Looking at All Seasons, All Weather, or Winter? Ohio sounds cold :þ
Cheers. |

General Altimax RT43 H or T rated . Good reviews by Consumer Reports and many other users at Tirerack . They've been on the '13 base FIT for 1 year ( October , 2014 ) and very pleased . They're 175/65-15 H rated . Very little loss for gas mileage . Possibly none . They can be purchased for under $69 each before rebate . Might want to wait to beginning of next month to see if any manufacturer rebate of $50 or $70 at the Generaltire site under promotions . Walmart has them for a decent price . You can click on the FIT emblem for history of gas mileage with the RT43s' since last OCTOBER .

Thanks, Hershey.
Cory, looking at all season. I drive a combination highway and city. Probably 70/30. |

I'm not sure how well they work in Ohio, but I'd suggest the Kumho 4X in the 195/55r15 size (assuming you have 15s). $72ea at tire rack. They excel in wet weather traction, and are best until a little below 0°C (freezing point). Once they get colder, winter tires take over. They really aren't great in snow, but no all-season is. They are also a very responsive tire which makes turn-in great. They won't last as long as some other tires, but that's the trade-off of having better traction (which may save your butt in an emergency). Yarii are pretty gentle on tires so you should get plenty of life out of them.
Cheers. |

The Kumho ECSTA 4X is a good choice. It's an ultra high performance all-season tire. I'm very happy with then on my car. They are quiet and comfortable and have outstanding handling characteristics.
EDIT: Since you do 70% highway driving, I should have mentioned that the tread pattern works well at high speeds, virtually eliminating highway wander. Last edited by kimona; 10-23-2015 at 11:32 AM. |

I have the General Tires RT43 and they are great!!! Sadly, one of my tires blew out due to some object to penetrated the tires beyond repairable. I love the tires so much that I put in another order @ America's Tires.

Managed to get this with '13 base FIT auto after a fill of VALERO 91 w/o E . It was in the low 60s' , light winds around 10 and no precip . Roads were state , town and some city . Had to stop nearly 20 times for stop signs , redlight and other drivers . No steep hills . Just slight inclines . The tires are 4 General Altimax RT43s' ( H-rated ) at 35 p.s.i.. They're rated better than average for L.R.R. in the recent Consumer Reports .

Hi Yarisworlders,
Update. Thank you for all the recommendations. I really appreciate it. I decided to go with my Toyota Service Center, since I get all my oil changes there and what not. That way, they can rotate my tires for free every 5,000 miles. I went with the Yokohama Avid Ascends, 85,000 mile tire, for $440 for a set of 4 tires. firebird1999, I did ask them about the Pirelli P4 tires, but my Service Center, for some reason, doesn't carry them. I'm hoping to get a lot of life out of these Yokohama tires. They are made in a Yokohama plant in Virginia that is supposedly very environmentally friendly, and they are partially made with orange oil. We'll see how they do. Again, thanks for all the input and recommendations! |

I got General Tires RT43's in 195/55 R15's. Great tire, wrong size (or at least I think it is) Should have gone with the 195/60's, less buzz at high speed.

H or T rated ? Both are good tires . The T rated got slightly better rating for snow / ice in recent Consumer Reports . The T was rated #3 and the H is #5 . Like the General so much we got 4 General Altimax Arctic with studs . They're 185/60-15 , the FIT original is 175/65-15 . Plan to pick up 4 more RT43 H rated in the spring for the other car .
