cheapo stock air box mod...
Since I haven't decided on an intake, I decided to mod the one I already have...
I had this old velocity stack laying around that I had gotten at a flea market decades ago. It happened to be an exact slip fit over the intake tube so I simply cut off the end and glued on the stack. It's larger in diameter than the original opening which starts out small and gradually gets larger as you get closer to the air box, so I cut the tube back to the larger diameter. Notice any difference?
So I just picked up my 'new' yaris on Friday (2008 HB with 70k on it). Very interested in CHEAP mods!
Have you noticed any difference in performance? |

Hi Hello,
No... no difference that I could tell because I did it when the car only had a couple hundred miles on it so I didn't really have much to compare it to. The velocity stack does make the intake opening a little larger and smoothes the airflow. I mostly did it because I think it looks cool. I'll be making some drastic changes in the whole intake system soon. Congratulations on your Yaris. 70K is not a lot of miles for a Toyota. |

That's cool!
Where's the easiest place to find one of those (and cheaply, of course! ) Cheers! M2

I don't know.
I bought that old one for a dollar at a swap meet in the 1980's and just kept it for all those years thinking that one day I'll have a use for it... ...and sure enough, I finally did. |

Finally found the pic...
This is a much better air box mod and it costs nothing... It's a stock air box with the bottom cut off and flipped upside down so that the filter is on top. |
