Has anyone replaced their clutch

My yaris is getting up there in miles and I'm going to need to replace the clutch pretty soon. I'm a fairly decent back yard mechanic and am thinking about doing the job myself. Has anyone done it? I've downloaded the service manual, and it looks like a pretty extensive job.

You may have to bite the bullet, that's how all the RSX's and SI's are laid out. I think you have to take the whole suspension apart, and disconnect the axles

Do you know how much the dealership is charging for the labor?

I am interested in replacing the clutch on my 2001 Echo myself too. Has anyone done the clutch on the Echo? Mine is still good but with 152,000 miles already I expect I may have to do it by 200,000 miles mark... Is there any statistics on how long the clutch lasts on average if mostly highway driving?

You don't need to align the subframe, it goes on one way only and suspension alignment can be done by any tire place...

In an Echo - yes, but not in a Yaris, although I don't expect it would be all that much different.

It all depends on the driver and his/her technique. The friction disk could be done in 20,000 miles or 200,000 miles. I had a 74 Beetle with 250,000 miles on the friction disk. And it was still good. I put 100 highway miles a day on it and treated it like glass. If you wear the lining into the rivets there goes your pressure plate and flywheel meaning another $$$$. After 152K it could be there. Its strictly your call.
