Help--Whining noise during acceleration

Just looking for some differentials as to why my yaris is making more and more noise.

For the past few month I have noticed a progressively louder whine-like noise coming from the engine compartment. The faster I go the louder it gets. I thought it may be the tires, checked the pressures and rotated them and no improvement. The noise is continuous and just louder the faster i go.

I plan on taking it in for service because noise is just getting to me. I have to turn the radio up to drown it out. Other than that the car is fine. I have a 90 mile round trip commute each day.

Its and 07 sedan with 65,000 miles

Any help would be appreciated

My 08 sedan whines in 5th gear (highway speeds) moreso now that the temp's have increased. It was quiet through the winter. Currently about 42,000 kl (~26,000 miles) on the clock. I plan to switch to full synthetic gearbox fluid the next time I do maintenance. Perhaps that'll quiet it down. If not we'll visit the dealer for it's first time since taking delivery.

Actually my whine is on decelleration in 5th gear. No whine when accellerating or cruising. Only when I lift.

is it an auto tranny? my Gf's car makes that noise and its getting progressively louder.

If you have any powertrain warranty left then take it to the dealer and have them drive it. I dont know much about automatic trannys but it sounds to me like something is getting worn down

or perhaps it is your water pump whining, while spinning faster under acceleration?

Take out the supercharger!

Seriously, though, it could as easily be the temperature of the road surface making the tar stickier, and thus noisier. it certainly has that effect here in RI during the summer.

I got back from the dealership once and it made this sound, but more like a mini-roar. Turned out they misshapenly put back together the airbox, ass holes. I'd do a quick check of that, make sure it is tightly locked together and that the airfilter isn't protruding anywhere to prevent a good seal of the box.

Do you hear it when not moving? try reving??

Also, there is ONE whine that is normal with the yaris due to the "not so great" sound deadening. I hear air being sucked in when i accelerate. After the accident with the echo, they did not properly clip a cover, and the noise was noticeably going inside. I hear the same thing in the yaris, so it's not much bothering me now..

is the whine from the engine compartment or from your speakers? Poorly grounded stereo systems are prone to having alternator whine amplified through the speakers.

LOL @ Mad Dog's post.

In my experience that loud whiny noise is a tranny issue, according my trusted mechanic at the time. Not trying to scare you, but my first car developed that problem but I just ignored it. A couple months later it turned into a louder grinding noise with very poor gas mileage. Lucky for me I sold the car before it could breakdown.

If it's not the tranny then it's def still something within the drivetrain, possibly an issue with a CV axle or boot. I would have it looked at right away before it gets worse
