Hey, did you know batteries could boil over?

I think the 100*F and above for weeks on end, A/C running at full blast most of the time may have been the culprit here.

Oh, and it was a little bit under spec anyway. The last one died under similar circumstances at the same time of year two years ago. Yay for two year replacement warranties without receipt. Had to pay $30 difference to get the right sized one this time, and installation is free if you do it yourself.

I'll fix the tie down when I get home...

Batteries usually "boil" (gas separation) when they are being overcharged. If they boil excessively, they're being severely overcharged. I would suspect an issue with the alternator!

Exterior temps should not be affecting your battery boil point. t and outgassing like mentioned above. I would definitely recommend having a diagnostic run on the entire charging system.

Also be very cautious with anything that could cause a spark.
Some of the gas it is boiling off maybe explosive.

I didn't have an overcharging problem.
I did have a low water issue in a battery in an Escort. I went to start it and there must have been a spark between the exposed plates. Boom acid all over the place. Peeled the paint off of the inside of the hood.

Yeah my daughters 12 Camry apparently had an overcharging issue. She drove it 80k miles in 2 years. There was corrosive fuzz all over the battery and adjacent fuse box and computer.

You really want to be looking at your battery/cables every oil change...

Now why would anyone want to perform preventative maintenance?

Don't mean to pile on but I agree with everyone above, especially about having electrics checked since this is the second time. Oh, and yeah, you were lucky it boiled over but did not explode.

It's been 100+ here and I leave my AC on all the time as well. I even drove to Vegas a couple weeks ago (3hours non-stop with AC blasting) where it was way above 100 and didn't have any issues.

I coat the battery terminals liberally with wheel bearing grease.
