I made a Spread Sheet! It seems the sooner you pump your gas, the better MPG you get!

Im still wondering what caused my drop from 35mpg to 30, and then down to 27 which is what it is now.

This last tank I did average 27.5mpg, and I was driving normal the entire tank, something I rarely EVER do!!!! SO WHAT GIVES!!!!!

My guess is the cold weather?

My dealership told me when I was in for an oil change, that it was due to my having wider tires/larger rims.
So I put the stock back on for 3 tanks of gas, did the same 27average.
I out the rims back on, do a tank, and I get 28!
Stupid dealership guy I swear.

Hmmm, yes I can't wait till the summer, so I can get that MPG up again.

Also, maybe mine will rise when I switch to synthetic/change spark plugs??/add fuel injector cleaner in abotuer a month or two?

Did you ever run very very low on fuel?

Really? I've found that the last bar basically represents (just over) one gallon, as filling up shortly after it starts blinking means that I can put in nearly 10 gallons exactly. In our cars, that's still quite a few miles left with ONE bar; I wonder why they think we should refill at two.

i don't know about you guy, but when my last bar start "BLINKING" i'm gonna fill up the whole tank of gas right away, i really have no idea how many more miles it can handle, but normally the whole tank of gas of my car maximum is 279 something until when it's "BLINKING". But i drive like crazy most of the time, RPM sometime go up to 4 or 5.

So in my opinion is YARIS SEDAN NEVER EXCEED 40 MPGs like the advertise.
hahhah i dont know, i'm still confuse about my car.

Are we talking about automatics or manuals here? The manual (5-speed) version is always going to get better mileage if a lot of the driving is city driving.

Also, doesn't winter blend gasoline always yield worse mileage than the summer blend?

Look on the second page.

Over time, you will risk damage by letting your tank run dry on a regular basis.

To the guy that is getting 27-8 mpgs-there is something wrong either with the way you drive(less likely) or with your car(more likely). It is true that cold weather leads to a LITTLE worse fuel economy but you are way too off. I would take it to the dealer completely stock and make them go over it. Aftermarket wheels will not cause such a dramatic drop in mpg unless you are running a really big size. In MN the weather is pretty cold and I still get consistent 36+mpg combined.

One more thing- I don't understand why toyota(excellent reliability) would design a fuel pump that is essentially overheating everytime you drop down to 1 bar. It doesn't make any sence to me and it sounds a little like an urban legend. I've always used up all my tank before fill up on all my cars without a single problem ever because of that. Just my 2c guys

yeah, i'm gonna take my yaris back to the dealer and let they see it again and see what are they gonna say about it, and if they say something about my 15inch aftermarket wheels that fuck up the gas like that, i'm probably gonna slap in his/her stupid face.

Give it up for YARIS 40MPG YEAH

OK, yes once I dont know why I ran out of gas, and had to push the car to a gas station, put gas, and after that day it went from 32 down to 24mpg. I took ti to the dealership and they blamed it on a bad tank of gas which looked/smelled bad.

Then a few weeks later and multiple tanks of 87/89/91 octane, still the same 25-27mpg.

I took my 2 subs and amp out, my donut, and put my stock tires/rims on; and It only did 1mpg better on average for two tanks.

I said to hell with it, put my 205/40/17 back on, and still got the 27mpg.

Now, I got pissed, went back a few weeks ago, and they did not want to do anything really, they just told me "the uce didnt report any errors so nothing can be done; and that the road test showed everything within ""spec""."

Well, its been a while now, and its still doing bad on gas.

I said to myself, no more driving at 80mph on the hgihway, and no more reving high betwen gears (like 3-4.5k)

I went normal the whole tank, mostly highway driving at 50-60mph. And guess what!!!!!!!! Still the same damn 27mpg. WOW I should imagine that with driving normally like an old person I should atleast seen 36+mpg average, but no.

When I first got the car, I was getting 35-38mpg average. One day went on a long trip and did 90mph the whole time, probably 250miles. I ended with 36.5mpg that day.

Now I do 60mph and dont rev high anymore, and somehow Im down to 25-27mpg range? What the F is this about.

Yes I have a 5door automatic.

yes I made the mistake of letting it run out of gas.

Yes I make the mistake of letting it run down till it flashes fast ALL the time.

So What is wrong, how can this be fixed? This way once its fixed I never again let it drop under 2-3bars.

Please dont harass me on my stupid mistakes, I'm already pissed enough at everything.

Thank you.

Whelp that means that every time you start your car (every day for work or what ever) you are getting 0 (zero) mpg until you leave... so for 10-15 mins of the car running you are going no where and putting zero miles on your car for 10-15 mins of gas...
so decide if you want to get into a cold car and drive for 10-15 mins until heat starts coming out and get better gas mileage or get into a warm cozy car and be comfortable for the whole time your in the car.

Who really expects to get the same gas mileage if you leave your car burning fuel for 10-15 mins going no where 5 days a week?

Why don’t you do this.. Lets assume that you drive 60 mph for 10 mins.. 1 min a mile.. 10 miles.. If you fill up Sunday night and you fill up Friday evening and you warmed up your car every morning for 10 mins.. That would be 50 more miles you gave away just to warm up your car. Add that to your calculation.

there are extra factors as far as rpm and the actual amount of fuel burned but this would be a reasonable amount to add in to help you add in fuel your wasting in your drive way. This is the general idea of city/hwy mpg.. City you stop a lot, sitting in traffic, your car is running and your going now where putting, zero miles on while burning fuel.

I think I just put some sort of reasoning to your 50mpg drop.

hmmm, try doing this...shift between 2k and 2,500 rpm in every gear (if you can), and don't drive more than 65 mph. it works for me. i'm still staying between 37 and 40 mpg and it's freezing cold here.
