El Toro Prosolo

So this past weekened was the El Toro ProSolo. A very cool autocross format that involves a drag start. I wasn't too fond of this kind of start since it involves the biggest weak point of the Yaris. I managed to get 15/17 in my class B1 which I was quite happy with seeing as some of the competition was the best in the country. I was struggling for grip due to the heat on almost every one of my runs. I did manage to get some decent times but my tires were the biggest weak point of the weekend.

This run felt great and was my quickest overall.
This was my quickest on the left hand side.

My tires were way overheated during this run and I was struggling for grip everywhere. This was my quickest on the right hand side

Nice!

57mph top speed, that one left turn in the low 20's gotcha.

Coilovers, trd rear sway bar, air filter, alignment, and lighter wheels. The tires I'm running have been killing me in the warmer weather. Yeah the car is pretty underprepared but does ok.

The last run my tires were in the 160 grerange way overheated and my brakes were fairly gone as well.

Watching the video I'm positive I was at the limit of adhesion for most of it.

Bring a bug sprayer with water in it, to spray down the tires after a run.

what tires were you running?

You can't run a water sprayer for the ProSolo format.
I'm running my streets which are conti extreme contact DW. They work great when the weather is colder sub 55 degrees there faster than RS3's which I was able to prove at the San Diego National Tour but give up when it starts to get hot.

To give you an idea of how hot it was the track temp was above 120 degrees and after my last 4 runs my tires were well into the 160 degree range with my brakes being above 280 even the Toyo R1R's were struggling with the heat.

Gotcha, I didn't realize that with the prosolo.

Anything is faster than RS3s below 60 degrees. they are hockey pucks below 60 degrees ambient.

How were the RS3s holding up in the high heat?

The only person I spoke with who was running them also a STF driver was doing quite well but at the end he overheated his tires as well.

What I meant about the conti's though is that they are significantly faster than the RS3's. I was something like 2-3 seconds down from my competitors at Nationals but on day 2 when I finally got everything figured out I was actually a couple tenths quicker than they were in their Mazda 3 during the first few runs before they got some heat in the tires. Were still talking about track temps above 65 degree's so its not like it was super cold.

I'm thinking I would have been about 1-2 seconds quicker on Toyo's but the big Achilles heel of the car is that it really lacks corner exit traction. I'm going to play with the front sway bar until I get that inside spin under control.
