Hey everyone.

I have a job interview at my current workplace for one of two open supervisor spots. 14 people have applied. I'm trying to prepare myself for this interview as I know I can do the job and wouldn't mind the extra $8,000 a year.

As i've been with the company for almost 9 years my interviewee skills are rusty. Can anyone give me some of the questions and answers you have been given when applying for a supervisors position?

How did you sell yourself to management?

Any help greatly appreciated.

First of all is it possible to know what the supervisor slot does and what you currently do?

It would help in order to put some wording together

Alright so it's something you like, and plan to be there aslong as possible if not your lifetime.

Just mention how it will expand your horizons, that you believe YOU have more than enough capability and responsibility to step up and do the job better than other candidates due to your want to improve things wether it be quick or slow performance will not go down it will only go beyond expectations. Plus it's your passion apparently so just let them know how determined you are.

NO kissing ass, just showing you can step up and not be knocked down.

Things like this is why they call me lucky around here, I have my way with words lol

You might be asked to give some examples of how you- yourself in your own opinion have improved or what you've done in the past to show that you are deserving.

If you answer a question like that, it's basically the pressure point in this. If you hit it right you can basically have a kill.

It shows to the superior that you're capable of going beyond and hell depending on the situation you can even show you will pull out new tricks.

If you have been there 9 years and they are hiring in house, you have probably been interviewed already. It might come down to a few people but they know if you wont get the job when you applied.

2. How will you build team spirit and cooperation in your group?
3. How will your work result in higher productivity/profit/etc. for our company?

A. Do NOT describe how you've improved at anything, that is weak. Say you are ready NOW.

B. Say you want it. You'd be surprised how many interviewees don't ASK for the job.

C. Ask THEM questions. It's your interview too, and demonstrates assertiveness.

Over the past 20 years I have only worked for two companies (the second for the past 18 years). On occasion I have interviewed elsewhere, although I have never been serious about leaving. With these dozen or so interviews, I have always been offered the job. The key for me has been to go into the interviews demonstrating complete confidence and turning the interview around where I make the interviewer try to sell me on his/her company and on why I should want to come work for them.

Internal interviews and progressions are quite different though. Seldom with an internal interview process is the decision not already made before the process begins. With an internal promotion, your resume is your past performance, accomplishments, attitude, and conduct.

+1 Though be careful to not cross the line between confidence and arrogance.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I used your posts to prepare for my responses at my interview today. There are 2 spots open for Releif Supervisor and 14 applicants. I felt I was confident, convincing and in with a good shot.

I find out next Friday. I'll post up the outcome when I know either way. There was two computer tests, first one I got 95% and the second one I got 100%. But management may have made their mind up on who they want in the jobs before the interview. So who knows what the outcome will be.

We use the Australian Dollar here, not the Zimbabwe Dollar. At the moment 1 Australian Dollar buys .98 US cents. Almost Dollar for Dollar.
