Engine refresh ?

My brother took my car today and he said that the engine feels like its sluggish compared to his Yaris. I have to admit I kinda feel like it's been a little rougher/louder and the car doesn't seem as smooth as it uses to when I bought it 2 years ago. It has 210 000km, 2007 HB auto.

Last when I checked the spark plugs a few months back one was reaching end of life and the others were middle (clearance check). I never had the engine knocking or misfire, never any trouble at startup. Do regular 8000km oil change.

I'm thinking maybe new spark plugs, new intake air filter (been 1.5 years, but isn't dirty) and... that's about it that I know of I cane o myself. Not sure it's gonna do much tho. What about those injector or throttle body cleaning etc ?

Personally I have no problem at all with it, but maybe there's something the car could benefit from ?

I'll look it up.

Edit : Not sure my car actually has symptoms of something wrong with compression, never had misfire nor knocking, never had problem starting, never heard anything bad from the engine.

I would try cleaning the MAF sensor and the throttle body. You can buy both cans of cleaner at Canadian Tire for less then 20$. After that, disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes to reset the ECU. Once the battery is reconnected, start the engine and let it idle for 10-15 minutes. Drive for a day or two and come back here to tell us if you noticed an improvement :) - JS

Compression can be down 30 percent w/ none of those symptoms.

Take this advice. These are very simple jobs and can make a world of difference. This simple service both smoothed out my idle and generally made the engine run better through all rpm ranges.
