Headlight Problem, Help Needed
Well, it just happened tonight. When I got out and started the car, the headlights decide to not work.
I fiddled with it for a minute and discovered that high-beam is actually working normally. That means that the bulb is fine, right? As far as my knowledge goes, yaris uses a single pair of bulbs for both low & high beam. So that being said, it's not the dead bulb. Had it been the bulbs, it would've been much easier I guess since I just have to go buy a new pair and stick it in. But in this case I don't know what the problem is. Electrical-wise, everything is working fine. There is not a single problem what so ever. Can it be a blown fuse or something like that? Please help

if the high-beams are working and the normal aren't,it can be a bad relay or a damaged fuse.perhaps even the connectors inside the handle you use to switch the lights to "normal" or "high" are damaged.
also, try another thing:leave the car operating on neutral and stationary ,and open the door while the lights are on "high". have you heard a beep of the warning system? if it's beeping, transfer the knob to "normal" and see what happens.i think this might give us a proper direction on how to solve this.

H4 bulbs have dual filaments, so it's possible that the low-beam ones are just blown (although, what are the odds...).

on both of the headlights? the "normal" beam isn't working..if it was blown,he could see the lights are working on the other headlight..

Your bulbs need to be replaced. Same thing happened to me when mine went out. Get some new ones and you'll be fine.

If you've done any recent work that involved the headlight stalk connector (like installing fogs), then check the connector. If wiggling the connector makes the low beams flicker, then you have a pin that is loose on the connector. After taking mine on and off many times, this happened to me. By wiggling individual wires on the connector I found the culprit, and then pulled the pin and reshaped it, so that it would make better contact.

crap aftermarket bulbs like silverstar or (insert any fancy overpriced bulb here) tend to
blow early (1 year) and within a week of each other. are they some aftermarket brand in fancy packaging that touts 'better visibility' or 'wicked color temperature' ? |

Change both bulbs. Try using the Osram brand. Made in GERMANY!

lol, no. ive been running 35w hid's in my yaris for well over a year in ALL weather conditions and its fine. i run 35w bixenon H4 hid's in the aveo as DRL's as well without incedent. hid kits pull less power than halogen bulbs once they're on

I have to agree with thebarber, HIDs are better in quality and you get a better visual of the road. And no they dont eat or melt the stock plugs, this happens with aftermarket bulbs that need a harness so it doesnt melt your excisting plug. So go out and buy some HIDs, and go to Microimageonline.com to purchase them. Oh I forgot to mention they last longer than regular bulbs. Do the right thing for your car. HIDs.

You do know that changing to HIDs isn't just a matter of plugging in a different bulb?
I hate to see those things, personally. |

And why is that? HIDs are like a small amp for the lights, yes they discharge more light, but it is at a level that is controled, by the ballast. But that is you opinion, not for everybody sure, but to some of us its the best thing to have especialy when you have your ride deck out and pretty looking. I luv em, and when you drive at night it keeps things clear, like debre and such, drive safe is what is all about. Holla at your boy.

I'm sure they're fine to drive behind, but they glare and they're dorky looking.
